Out Like Wolves
Out Like Wolves are a UK based rock unit, based just outside London and formed with a desire to create rock music built on dedication and the united understanding of their music. Not giving a lot else away on their bandcamp page, the band were good enough to chuck us over a link to their digital single, Vultures, to see what we thought of things. Always keen to check out what’s going on, I hit play.
Opening with Waves we’re immediately thrown into an upbeat and melodic mix of hammering guitar lines, pounding rhythms and a real sense of simple, in your face rock music. Contrasting the hard hitting backing melodies with a soaring vocal line which is sure to engage anyone who hears it, it’s a case of a track which people will sing along to, want to see live and enjoy from start to finish. What I really like about this track is how they’ve taken a relatively simple approach to all out rock and made it their own, moving through the different sections of the track and adding their own approach to things, incorporating a guitar solo, catchy hooks, and resulting in a track which starts things off damned well!
Moving on to Vultures, the theme of rock continues, this time adopting a more syncopated approach to things to add a sense of complexity to the mix. This ability to add in the more complex approach to things once again stands this track out as one to check out, demonstrating the bands understanding of music and their dedication to developing their sound rather than simply settling at what could be perceived as easier. Catchy once again, there’s a real ‘mainstream’ quality to this track, the sort of thing which would allow the track to receive airplay on major radio stations and stand the band in good stead to gain a solid following of fans of all sorts. My personal favourite of the two tracks, this is one to make sure you check out, and one to get hold of if you get the chance.
I really like the sound that Out Like Wolves have gone for, and think that given the right exposure, these guys have got the potential to do remarkably well in the future. The sound doesn’t follow convention as such, instead opting to carve its own path into the world of rock music, showing that there are bands out there that don’t need any frills or uneccesary elements, and instead can rely purely on their ability as musicians to get them noticed.
