Patriot Rebel
We were recently put on to Nottingham based Patriot Rebel to see what we thought. Having formed in 2007, this 5 piece band describe their music as ‘impressive guitar solos, catchy riffs, driving drum beats and memorable melodies, Patriot Rebel leave venues gasping for more’, which sounds pretty cool to me! Also saying that their music is akin to the likes of Alter Bridge and Black Stone Cherry, I figured this was something I should get out there and check out!
Opening with Come Of Age, the music immediately grabs your attention and pulls you in, soaring lead lines hammer whilst the drums back everything up straight away creating a sound which you need to hear! The track is catchy, rocky and something which I think a lot of people will connect with, immediately showing off their influences from the likes of Alter Bridge. Kicking into a catchy chorus, you can’t help but move along with the music, it gets you out of your seat and makes you want to hear more and more. The bass is kept solid in the mix meaning there’s a real depth here as well, something which is bound to have you reaching for that volume up button just to make sure the neighbours are enjoying it as much as you are. Catchy, hard hitting and energetic throughout, this is some seriously accomplished music here and as an intro to a band, something which seems to suggest very good things to come!
What Goes Around follows on, a track which picks up where the last left off, this time launching straight into a catchy riff and not giving you a second to kick back. The vocals are the key driving force behind things here, adding a contrasting effect over the backing music and making you want to hear what’s coming next. Faster and more ‘poppy’ (if that’s the right word), this is a track which given the right exposure could well be the one to propel these guys into the spotlight. The guitars continue to pound around over the drums, almost creating a syncopated feeling to things whilst still keeping everything firmly accessible to anyone listening to it, this is a great track! Back To Life soon comes into being and immediately calms everything down, everything chills out and the music takes on an acoustic approach, the vocals leading the way into the track fully. Keeping everything laid back and melodic, there’s a real emotional edge to things here, something which once again pulls you in and makes you want to hear more and more. Adding in the distortion once again to accentuate the chorus, this is a track which is an example of why more people should hear these guys, this track is quite simply a triumph, and one which I know I’ll be coming back to time and time again.
Cupids Arrow finishes the selection for the purposes of the review, a track which opens bass heavy and pulls you out of the chilled out haze the last track induced. Faster, heavier and more energetic, this track is sure to be a killer on the live scene and one which I have to see! The guitars really steal the show here, keeping everything fast and distorted throughout, allowing the rest of the band to back them up and creating a track which is going to have you reaching for that volume up button once again. Keeping everything fast and catchy throughout, this is a track which will leave you with a serious taste for these guys and make you want to hear more and more!
I’m a big fan of Alter Bridge and Black Stone Cherry, so when I see bands saying they sound like them I’m always a little bit wary, but in this case I agree completely. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these guys supporting their peers soon enough, I just hope everyone gets on and takes note of what they’re producing! I for one can’t wait to hear what comes next from these guys so get on it, record and album and send me a signed copy! Make sure you check these guys out.
