Peepshow
Taking on a new approach to rock n roll, flecked with danger and enticing fans to a genre more alluring than monotonous pop, Peepshow are here and poised to deliver their message to the nation. Combining influences from the likes of My Chemical Romance, Black Veil Brides, Kill Hannah and Blessed By A Broken Hear, these guys have prepared their album Brand New Breed and are now set for the world to check them out.
The opening Intro track soon sets the scene for the album, opening with a dark approach which builds into the album beginning fully, combining strings with spoken word and creating an alluring and enticing sound from the off. It’s Let Go which really gets things going though, opening with a sound akin to the likes of Dark Tranquility but with more bile and aggression initially, this is a band to watch out for. The smooth vocals which soon take the lead come as somewhat of a shock but soon build the track into something which you won’t be able to resist, crafting a track which harks back to the more classic rock bands whilst still sounding fresh and exciting. Catchy and powerful throughout, this is the sort of track which is built perfectly for the live scene, ready to get crowds moving and involved.
Live Free Or Die continues this theme, opening with a blistering guitar line over more synth, combining the darker elements with an upbeat sounding beat. Catchy once again, this is the sort of track which you can’t help but move to, it’s perfectly formed and mixed to allow every single element of the band to be heard in turn. What’s most striking here is the vocals, they soar over the backing music and really capture the essence of this band, throwing you a sound which you’ll be singing along to yourself for days to come. Trouble seems to mark a more straight forward approach to the music, opening with a GnR like riff which grabs you, gets you moving and doesn’t stop until the moment the track comes to a close. Almost funky at times, this isn’t metal or overly heavy, just rock music designed to accompany a damned good time. Moving in to the softer ballad approach of Only A Dream, the album seems to twist and turn around you, throwing out surprise after surprise, keeping you guessing as to what’s going to come next.
Moving through the heavy approach of All Or Nothing before Feed On Me comes in, throughout the tracks the band seem to be able to combine their hard and soft approach, keeping a sense of urgency and distortion firmly in place whilst also focusing heavily on the melodies which make up the track. It’s Irriversable which really stands out as another high point on the album, throwing out some acoustic guitar lines and once again demonstrating that this is a band with some serious ability. Soft, melodic and emotionally laden, this track stands out as a moment where the band have sat back and really thought about their sound, once again combining the soft and hard to form a track which is quite simply a triumph. Suffer, Romance Is Dead and Star Eyes all return us to the more powerful approach, once again keeping you moving and questioning how they’re going to follow the almighty sound which their songs seem to create.
Title track Brand New Breed once again demonstrates the influences of the band, harking to the likes of GnR and Motley Crue through their raspy, gravelly approach to rock. Melodic throughout once again, this is another track which will stand out as a favourite for many who hear this album, almost continually raising the bar as if to say ‘we’re not done yet’. Waking The Dead is a more intricately formed metal track, opting for a solid riff opening before ushering in a pumping vocals section, surely a track which is going to leave venues shaking down to their foundations. The catchy lines soon lead us to the final moments of the album, closing with Follow Your Instincts. Finishing as it began, the track fades into being to allow us one more insight into the ability of the band and their over all plan for world domination. Soft piano lines, soaring vocal lines, synth effects and enough power to leave you a quivering wreck in the corner, this final moment on the album seems to summarise the entire thing in one go, leaving you with one final insight into how powerful a band can be when they want to be, and how insanely good an album from them can be.
I’m always a little wary when a band is compared to the likes of Black Veil Brides as personally, I’m not a fan. These guys though have crafted a sound which is theirs, and something they should be proud of. This album will stand out amongst any which go against it, demonstrating that this truly is going to be a band to keep an eye out for. Personally, I can’t wait to hear more…….for now though, I’m listening to this again!
