Pyrovore
We were recently contacted by William of Pyrovore about his band to see what we thought. Emailing saying maybe we could write a review, I thought to myself maybe we could, before deciding that there was enough maybe’s already and I should just get on and do something, so I did! Based in Sebastian Florida, these guys describe their music as metal, and cite two of my all time favourite bands amongst their likes – Fear Factory and Dream Theater – so this has to be worth a shot!
Scars Of The Weak immediately sets the pace as fast and the style as heavy, opening with a hammering bass line and solid drum mix under some insane riffing action from the guitars. Moving into some roaring vocals, this is music designed to get pits moving and people beating the shit out of each other – this isn’t for the faint hearted amongst you! Leaving the production to one side, the band instead seem to just unleash a can of aggression within their music, not allowing you a moment to rest as it progresses and instead just hammering onwards as fast as they possibly can, throwing in a guitar solo of epic proportions just to make sure you’re there and paying attention. The vocals are the real show stealer for me on this track though, harking to the likes of Burton C Bell of Fear Factory in their style and really pushing everything out at you, good start!
Moving into Resurface, everything seems to slow down for a moment with some Spanish style guitar to almost sooth you after the assault that was the previous track, but not for long. Throwing down into an even heavier mix than before, this is another track which is going to get venues being torn apart from start to finish. There’s a real Slayer style sound to things on this track, adopting the Araya style vocals and K King style riffing, the whole mix once again is one which you can’t sit still and listen to, you have to move! Inhuman Aggression follows much the same style, once again opening heavy and setting the pace at ‘pit’ mode. Chopping and changing the style of guitar as the track builds, gradually things return to the relentless pace of previous tracks and encourages you to get out there to smash something up. Once again adopting a Bell style on the vocals, if you can imagine a Fear Factory/Slayer hybrid band then this is what it would sound like!
Closing the selection with War there’s only one thought left on my mind, how can they keep up this sheer power! This final track seems to take all of the previous tracks and smash them against a wall as if to say ‘they weren’t heavy enough, this is what we were going for’. Raw, aggressive and powerful from start to finish, this track closes the selection and leaves you with a salty taste in your mouth, one of sweat and destruction courtesy of Pyrovore, and one which you won’t get rid of easily!
What can I say about Pyrovore, well, they’re heavy! This isn’t music for anyone who’s got any doubts about whether they like heavy or not, this is for the all out fan of metal who wants to go and see a band then smash some shit up – and this is your perfect soundtrack. I like what they’ve done, but would have liked to have seen more of their influences coming into play, which might be a good or a bad thing I guess. On one hand, there’s a unique style to the music, but on the other hand you can’t help but crave something more, something extra. Don’t be put off and make sure you check these guys out, I just hope their next recordings are a bit more technical rather than just going out, throwing down and destroying a stage and stopping there, but then it could have been down to my speakers not handling it of course!
