Reign UponUs - Yes They Did!
A well formed band from Bicester. Reign UponUs have been causing enjoyable chaos on the music scene for years, gaining more and more fans, releasing an EP and performing all around Oxfordshire’s best venues and beyond. Made up of 5 guys, each performing to distinction in METAL!
Adam, lead vocalist, produces sounds I never thought possible. His throat tightens around mental screams and, for such a small person, blows the audience away with his voice. He also manages to incorporate melodies in the middle of these metal pig squeals and throaty exhales. A truly applaudable front man. And one who knows how to encourage a crowd.
The guitarists, Goodall and Shunt (aka Jason and Steve), evolve themselves into centipede like creatures, using their fingers as feet to crawl all over their instruments and create such epic riffs. They are connected, as one on stage, harmonising and generating noise your ears crave to hear.
Karl has played his final show with the RUU boys and it was sad to see a talent leave. He is to pursue his musical career with another band, In Your Honour, but leaves behind big shoes that will be difficult to fill. Finally on heavy percussion we find Darren. He fashions fast pounding beats to secure a tight sound that represents the future of metal.
This band have everything you could want. Heavy and intricate riffs, backed by awesome drumming and topped off with the intense vocalist.
Go find them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RUUunit and I urge you to buy their album on iTunes.
Reign UponUs are a band to watch, listen to and love, with every inch of your metal souls.

Reign Upon Us
Reign Upon Us from Oxford got in touch with some of their music! Being the lovely chaps we are here at Loud-Stuff, we cranked the stereo on and had a listen to what they’d been good enough to send us!
Bottle of Jack launches the listener into an aural hell, screams and roars backed up by chunky guitars, pounding drums leap out at you straight away, catching you off guard if you’re not ready for it. The chorus is a contrast though, melodic and tuneful, again catching the listener off guard if you’re not prepared for it. Lurching through the track, contrast after contrast is thrown at you – soft guitar lines into roaring vocals, melodic choruses and pounding break downs – I’m still a little taken aback by this one! As the track drew to a close I found myself wanting it to keep going, there’s something really quite hypnotic about this.
Pandora’s Plagiarism starts off in pretty much the same way – hard and fast. The drumming on this track is incredible, maintaining the double bass for long periods of time backing up the screaming vocals. The guitars jump around on top of the drums really giving this track a funky edge yet still maintaining the darkness the band’s created so far. When the vocals clean up, again, I was really taken aback by the sudden change – it works though!
Dead to the World builds from recorded vocals into a soft, clean yet dark guitar line, sounding almost threatening in the way it builds up, backed up by strings. Then as the song launches full tilt onwards, the screeching vocals and guitar lines take over showing you just what you were being warned about, a no holds barred full on assault of your ear drums. This track is without a doubt my favourite of the selection, it’s very Cradle of Filth at times but works on so many more levels than CoF ever did for me.
Spanish guitars open final track Into Orbit, leading into clean vocals and atmospheric echoes, the start here is another complete contrast. The drums build into a crunchy riff with the clean vocals over the top sounding almost haunting against the heavy back drop. This track is nothing like the others up to this point and as such, it doesn’t seem to fit. It’s a good track in its own right, but as an accompaniment to the tracks so far, it simply doesn’t go along with the mould laid down.
Reign Upon Us are a band who have caught me off guard, offering some really dark heavy and melodic tracks which I’ve really enjoyed listening to. They are definitely one for the heavier fan though – don’t go listening to this if you want a soft relaxing lay down in the back garden!
