San Cisco - Live Review
4 piece band from Fremantle WA, formed in 2009, San Cisco are Jordi Davieson – Vocals Guitars & Keys, Josh Biondillo – Vocals Guitars & Keys, Scarlett Stevens – Vocals & Drums and Nick Gardner - Bass, described as indie pop.
We caught up the guys on their Rocket Ship tour at MoJo’s in Fremantle on 27th April, supported by Perth act, Voltaire Twins.
The support act Voltaire Twins, described as new wave, are essentially electro pop and compliment San Cisco perfectly. Voltaire Twins are Jaymes and Tegan Voltaire. Their set ran for 40 mins to a near capacity crowd inside the classic Fremantle Venue, MoJo’s. They played 8 Tracks – Romulus, Jump Cuts, Young Adults, Light Fears, Animalia, Island Talk, London and The Kate Bush. The band included an additional Keys player and Drummer, Jack and Matt. The sound produced by 3 Keyboards, Drums and additional percussion was captivating. Majority of their tracks combined the male/female vocals of Jaymes and Tegan, who harmonize easily. The only thing preventing this duo from real commercial success in their own right, is the lack of those vocal hooks that make your ears prick up and give their demographic something to sing along to. They have a great stage presence and are a duo to watch out for, if you are a fan of The Presets or Sneaky Sound System. Unearthed in 2008, they have made a name for themselves locally and supported many major acts over the last few years. Voltaire Twins are supporting San Cisco throughout the entire national Rocket Ship tour.
Discography – Romulus EP and Cabin Fever Album.

San Cisco played an hour set, 14 tracks with their award-winning track ‘Awkward’ as their finale. The most enlightening aspect of San Cisco’s show is that ‘Awkward’ may have catapulted the band into notoriety but it is however not typical of the bands usually material. That may prove to be a disappointment to the teen fan base that ‘Awkward’ established with its success. The audience for their hometown Fremantle show covered a wide demographic, granted with a strong young adolescent influence. A few songs into the set the band played ‘Freak Out’ that was the closest that their material came to ‘Awkward’. For the most part the band had a way more mature sound, not unlike in parts the House Martins or early Undertones. Happy, Up beat tunes within the typical indie type structure. The band left the stage for Jordi to perform solo, a song written by him about his Dad. ‘Johns Song’ Lyrically the song outlined his father’s history, and how that affected others. Overall San Cisco gave the audience a polished performance with plenty of verbal interaction, obviously very comfortable in front of a local crowd on their home ground.
Their single ‘Awkward’ came in at no. 7 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 2011, as well as being nominated for a fair few National awards.
