Septic Fatality
We were recently contacted about an up and coming speed thrash metal band from Sheffield called Septic Fatality, to see what we thought of their EP, Into The Tomb. Influenced by the likes of Testament, Overkill and Slayer, the guys aim to deliver an interesting and unique mix of old school thrash but with a modern twist, refining their sound with their own taste in things and demonstrating how able a unit they are throughout. Being the helpful folk we are here at Loud-Stuff, I figured we’d check out the EP for ourselves to see what’s going on!
Into The Tomb gets things moving with an intricate lead line before hammering into a solid mix of upbeat riffs, bass rhythms and hammering drums. The mix which forms here doesn’t initially come across as thrash, initially suggesting at something more prog related, but with a solid and heavy edge. Soon moving more towards the more stereotypical thrash style riffs, we’re soon grabbed and pulled along for the ride with the band, the heavy guitar lines encouraging you to reach for the volume up button so you can fully appreciate what you’re hearing. Offering up a sense of old school thrash metal, the band seem to have taken a well established genre and made it their own, adding their own unique approach to things so it doesn’t sound outdated or old, instead sounding fresh, exciting and new from the word go.
Moving onto Sadistic Maniac the thrash heavy approach continues, this time thrusting you into a distorted and upbeat world of heavy guitars, hammering drumlines and more of that awesome rumbling bass goodness. Powerful and fast paced throughout, this is a track which is sure to get pits moving on the live scene, the sort of thing which you know is going to get everyone involved, moving and begging for more. Throwing in a catchy line of ‘we will fuck you up’, this track is the highlight of the EP for me, and one which seems to fully show off the sound which Septic Fatality have got on offer – one to check out for sure.
It’s only left to Chuck Her In The Cooker to close proceedings for us, finishing with another thrash orientated track designed to get you moving, jumping and loving every second of it. This final track is another example of how the band have taken an established genre and made it their own, drawing on their influences throughout yet still managing to stamp their own sense of authority on it throughout. To me, this is what thrash should sound like, the sort of music you know you’re going to love live, but at the same time the sort of thing you can crank on at home and love just as much – a solid finish to a solid EP.
I really like the sound that Septic Fatality have gone for here as it seems to transcend the boundaries of thrash metal and offer up a sound which is hard hitting, powerful and intricate. Based on the three tracks on offer here I’ll be interested to hear what they come up with next, as based on this, it’s going to be interesting for sure!
