Seven Years To Burn
Seven Years To Burn from Houston were put onto us by Damon from Inner Light once again. Seeing as all of the bands he’s sent through have been well worth a listen, I worked out that this would probably be the case again so I should probably have a listen just to make sure!
Opening with Cyanide Bottle you’re immediately thrown into a dark mix of roaring guitars and vocals accompanied by pounding drums – this is some serious stuff right here. Heavy, raw and fast from the outset, the band show no signs of slowing at any point during the track. Adding in differing riffs to keep the track alive throughout, the pace is enough to make even the most seasoned metal fan sit back and take a second look, these guys know what they’re doing and do it well! Continually adding in new sections to keep the track interesting, this is one which if you can take the raw power, you’ll revisit time and time again.
Dissolution follows on, straight away continuing the fast and heavy approach to doing things. Keeping the drums setting the pace, this is a live track, one which will have entire festival grounds of people moving along to the beat of the band, keeping the crowd engaged and pummelling them with the raw power. Soaring guitar riffs accompany rolling drums and pounding bass lines whilst the roaring vocals lead the track onwards, it’s unrelenting and will make you question why you’ve not seen these guys gracing festival stages over in these parts of the world! Keeping the track to just over 3 minutes these guys fit a hell of a lot into the track, adding in new riffs and drum beats to keep it interesting throughout, this is probably my favourite track from the bands MySpace and one which I’ll come back to again and again – it’s awesome!
Final track Arcadia closes things from these guys, opening raw and edgy and then pummelling things home further with one hell of an awesome drum section. Less produced than the previous tracks, this one shows off the raw energy of the band, capturing their live essence and forcing the music down your throat. Contrasting the vocals between roaring and chanting, the sound created here is verging on industrial at times through the drumming whilst always maintaining that classically metal chuggy guitar line. This track is also the heaviest of the selection, but my god it’s good! Chucking a lead line in for good measure these guys know what they’re doing and I for one cannot wait to get them over here!
I didn’t know what to expect from Seven Years To Burn, but I’m damn glad I listened to them. Their music is raw, powerful and yet somehow well produced. They create a sound which will both punish and pleasure, keeping you constantly questioning what is going to come next from them. This is only 3 tracks, but I need to hear more!
