Short Of Cash
So a while back the guys in Short Of Cash dropped us a line, asking us to check out their track Luck Of The Draw to see what we thought of things. Coming out of Seattle, these guys describe their sound as Wild West Crunch/Honk-A-Tonk-A-Billy – which doesn’t sound like anything I’ve come across before, so I figured it was about time I checked it out! Taking influence from the man in black himself, Johnny Cash, I was interested to see what sort of sound these guys were pedalling, and how it worked!
As Luck of the Draw gets going the style of the band becomes clear, raucous guitar lines combine with a harmonica to form that classic southern rock sound but with more of an upbeat edge, the sort of thing which is sure to get people moving from the word go. Fast paced and intricate throughout, this is a track which doesn’t follow convention, instead opting to press its own path through the music and crafting a sound which is unlike anything I’ve come across before. There’s elements of country, elements of swing, elements of blues, and elements of rock all thrown together into the mix, yet they’ve managed to make it work. To me, this is beer drinking music, the sort of thing which you know is going to be cool to witness live, and the sort of thing which turns any situation into a damned good time. Coming to a close I’m left with one thought, who knew it was going to sound like that?!
When I read the info on Short Of Cash I wasn’t sure I’d like what I was about to hear, but having heard it I’m impressed, they’ve taken their influences and crafted a new sound designed to have fun to, and it works. From start to finish this will make you think, present you with things that shouldn’t work, but the whole time let you know that it’s all good and you simply need to crank open a bottle of moonshine, sit back and enjoy.
