So after checking out their video for Diamonds, the chaps passed us on some details of their fourth studio album, IV Monument. Seeing as we'd loved the video so much, we passed things onto Miriam to check out and she thought she'd better share her thoughts!
Sideburn are a doom metal/stoner/hard rock outfit from Stockholm,Sweden.Their fourth studio album IV Monument has all the elements expected of the genre, but also contains some pleasant surprises. There is an element of blues throughout with the presence of hammond organ melodies and the album is a progressive piece of work in it's entirety. The album is nine songs in lenght and weaves a rich tapestry with regard to vocal range, adaption and ability by lead vocalist,Jani Kataja. It is a very vibrant album.Fire and Water and Monument are particularly interesting as they possess a nice 60's vibe with a perfect touch of the psychedelic.

Sweden seems to have this knack of offering up bands of a quality that other countries can only aspire to, so when we were contacted by Sideburn, a classic hardrock/blues/doom/progressive band, we sat up and took notice! They dropped us a line letting us know about their track Diamonds, the video to which can be seen below, and a track which we were told, we couldn’t afford to miss!
Kicking into the heavy, blues orientated mix on offer, the track seems to grow from the word go, launching into a sound which is funky, groove orientated, and firmly rooted in a sense of distorted blues rock. The sound on offer here is melodic and accessible from the outset, the sort of thing which gets you listening, gets you banging your head, and makes you want to get out to a show to check them out. Drawing influence from the likes of Black Sabbath, the band have taken a sound which is widely known and understood, and made it their own. Personally, I find it hard to pick fault in a track like this as simply, it hits all of the right notes. Definitely the sort of thing which is going to find its full force on the live scene, this track has all of the elements you’d expect and has them mixed in a manner that allows you to hear it all, offering us an insight into the band and letting us know why it is that we need to have Sideburn on our musical radars from here onwards!
Personally I’m loving the sound that Sideburn have gone for, it’s the sort of thing which renews your faith in music and reminds you why you started listening to rock and metal in the first place. Definitely a band I want to see getting over to these shores sometime soon, make sure you check them out!
