Skylines
Skylines, a 4 piece band from Exeter got in touch about the music featured
on their FB page. Settling back and pushing play, I found myself chilling out
to some nice, laid back tracks of post-punky genius.
The 1.12 Intro sets the scene for this band, opening softly, chilled and laid back, immediately I found myself chilling out to the sounds of this intro, incredibly chilled out this one. As Things We Lost In The Fire kicks in with a catchy guitar riff backed up by drums I was almost woken up by this sudden catchy, jumpy rhythm. The track continues in this way leading into a catchy chorus backed up by a thumping bass line, this is one to play loud (although probably best to warn the neighbours!).
I’ll Wait Forever opens with another catchy guitar rhythm and simple drum beat and as the vocals kick in I found myself once again settling back to enjoy the track. As the chorus kicks in the tempo picks up and the bass once again pushes the track forwards, before reverting back to the original laid back chilled sound. The contrasts in this song are excellent, really making this an interesting song to listen to.
The band also features two preview tracks on their FB page, one of Don’t Let Me Down which features a solid lead line over a catchy rhythm section, reminiscent of early Bush tracks, definitely one I want to hear in full! The Sweetest Summer is the second preview, again taking on a slightly more pumping rhythm than the full tracks and a lead line overlaid to give the track some extra depth.
In all, this band is another different style of music to add to the ones we’ve looked at so far on Loud-Stuff. The full tracks are quite chilled out and easy going where as the preview tracks sound like the band has moved on slightly, taken on a heavier sound but retained their catchy emphasis. I want to hear the preview tracks in full and am 99.9% sure that Don’t Let Me Down is going to be the song I love from this band, but time will tell! I like Skylines, and am intruiged by the new sound they appear to have, this is definitely a case of watch this space!
