Stay Ok
Garry from SAN PR was good enough to get in touch recently about Stay Ok, an Irish 3 piece offering emotionally charged rock. Describing their music as honest rock that captivates and engages listeners, these guys are due to release their debut EP, Time To Grow, on the 16th of January 2012 – so we thought it only right to let you know what you’re in for!
Opening with Lay Your Worries to the Grave, the album straight away takes on an energetic approach musically, charging onwards with the guitars intertwining with the bass line whilst the drums set the solid pace – this is a charged opening to an album and one which is sure to get people talking. As the track progresses the vocals seem to steal the show, adding in an extra dimension of emotion behind the music and making sure that you’re full understanding the message which the band have got to tell you. The really striking part of the track for me though is midway through when it’s broken down to just vocals, bass and drums. The haunting echoes of the vocals over the roving bass line really create a section beyond what you would expect from a band just starting out, it’s incredibly well crafted.
My Day follows on, opening slightly heavier than the previous track and sounding almost Foo Fighters-esque in the way it is performed. The vocals once again really hammer home the message of the track , creating a feeling of engagement, making you get involved with what’s going on . Kicking into one of the catchiest and most powerful chorus sections I’ve come across in a while, this track is an anthem, and one which is bound to be well received on the live scene. Time To Grow sounds almost soft as it follows on from the adrenaline fuelled chorus of My Day. Opening sounding akin to Biffy Clyro at first, the laid back guitars back up the vocals whilst the bass line roves around, kept high in the mix so that you can follow every step of it. The drums are the real show stealer here though, the beat created making you want to be there with the band, making you nod along and making you want to hear more. This track is another triumph from the band and one which I think will be incredibly well received, it’s got all of the right ingredients to be a really massive track for these guys.
Final track Towards The Finishline closes the album and leaves you with no doubt that what you’ve just heard has been something which you’re going to hear again and again. Faster and more energetic than the previous track, this one is sure to get live crowds whipped into a frenzy along with the band and really demonstrates the energy of these guys. This is a track which defines how far the band have come, the journey if you will, showing that they can craft a laid back ballad of sorts but when pushed, can really crank the amp up and hammer a message home.
I’m always wary when I see a band described as emotional, you’re never sure if you’re going to get someone whining down the mic at you for numerous tracks, but that’s not happened here. What you’ve got instead is a band who have crafted tracks which will engage you, make you want to hear more and will surely solidify these guys as players on the msuci scene. I for one look forward to seeing how this is received once it’s out there, and know that I want to hear much much more!
