Storm The Walls
Formed in 2007, Storm The Walls take pride in writing good honest heavy music which they describe as a crossover of thrash and hardcore, groove and death metal – which sounds like one hell of a mix to me! The chaps were kind enough to recently drop me a line to let me know about the official video for Zorika, and asked whether I could take a look to see what we thought of things. Ever the helpful chap I am, I took the lead on this one for the guys, settled back and hit play to see what was going on!
From the word go it’s clear that this is some seriously heavy stuff, kicking into the track and not holding back until the moment they’re done and finished. Hammering guitars work with the pounding drums and rumbling bassline, the whole mix forming into something which sounds like a hybrid of all sorts of different genres, somehow forming a sound which works and keeps you listening throughout. Roars meld into screams, the guitars set the tone for the mix to follow and the drums back the whole thing up, forming this heavy sound which you know is going to be absolutely brutal on the live scene. The accompanying video is a good demonstration of what to expect from the band musically, heavy, scary and full on stuff – which in my books is pretty damned cool!
I’m impressed that Storm The Walls have managed to take their influences and form a sound that isn’t just a copy of anyone else, doesn’t follow the conventions of one genre and instead, forms its own route through music and demonstrates how able a unit we’re dealing with here. I’ll be interested to hear the new album once it’s out there – and I’m thinking this is another band I need to add to my ‘must see live’ list!
