The Death Trucks
Blending together the sounds of Hardcore, Stoner Metal and Punk, London based The Death Trucks are on their way to kick you in the face so you pay attention. Stemming from several other bands originally, these guys are here to stay and a force to be reckoned with! Strangely, I think I saw these guys supporting Reuben many years ago, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s on offer now!
Nothing and Nowhere opens and sets the tone straight away, sounding raw and edgy from the outset and never faltering. The vocals show off the bands hardcore tendancies and continue to thrust the track onwards – the simplicity of the beat of the track keeps it powering onwards without over complicating things yet maintaining the heaviness set up at the start of the track. This track is pretty simple when you listen to it, but this is what makes it I think, it works because they’ve kept everything as it should be, bass elements which combine to make something bigger.
Second track Tender Skin opens in a different way, choosing to place the bass much higher in the mix so that it acts as a driving force behind the music. This bass edge adds something extra to the track and builds it up ever further until finally the vocals kick in and power onwards. Telling the audience that this song is just a chorus, the track is catchy in it’s own way yet maintains that raw energy which they established early on, it’s original to hear a band keeping things so simple yet achieving such a massive sound.
In all, The Death Trucks are a band who seem to keep things simple and uncomplicated, this in turn makes their music the same. There’s nothing here which will confuse the listener, just solid in your face metal which will get crowds moving on the live scene. I’m intrigued as to whether it was these guys supporting Reuben when I saw them as well, something I may have to get out there to find out. In the meantime, check out their music and see what you think!
