The Dirty Youth - Red Light Fix
Mel's first submission – New Album released in Oct 2011 from The Dirty Youth.
The Dirty Youth are a 5-piece band from Wales who founded in 2007. They have toured and supported several great bands successfully including ‘30 Seconds to Mars’ ‘Slash’ and ‘Motorhead’. This Album has been mixed by Martyn Ford and Colin Richardson, known for their previous work with ‘Slipknot’ and ‘Bullet for my Valentine’ and released through RMR Records. Their music could be compared to early ‘No Doubt’ and ‘Evanescence’, Danni Monroe, the female lead vocalist, has a rather less polished vocal than Gwen or Amy however, and that makes their music more convincing and raw, her performance on the album has real energy, and the band display a tight quality throughout. The lyrical content is the only criticism I might have, a little predictable and devoid of real meaning to the listener, over time they will produce some deep and meaningful anthems for life. Songs that their audience will relate to and be able to quote in their own lives.
We start with ‘Rise up’, intro’s with ballad and then steams into rock/pop with Danni demonstrating her vocal diversity. Lyrically the song feels like a politically charged protest song however it does not seem to have a clear political message.
‘The End’ has a feel of classic Evanescence. One of my favorite tracks, it has energy, Good vocal, Great drums and guitar.
‘Requiem of the Drunk’ this track, builds and relaxes and builds again, more PUNK than pop with great riffs, I enjoyed this track a lot and it shows the diversity from with in this band.
‘Fight’ is yet another faster and energized track, the type of song that instantly sounds familiar and sticks in your mind.
‘Final Chapter’ the bands signature sound, it’s hard not to enjoy it, when it’s performed with such passion.
‘Ellen’ sounds like one of the first songs written by the band. Followed by what you would imagine what was one of the latest tracks written ‘Red Light Fix’.
‘Last Confession’ sounds like it is following the rock/pop success format. It has powerful mad drums, and killah guitar riffs. In summary, it totally works.
‘Promises’ would be one of my ‘single’ choices, it sums up the band as a whole.
‘This is for You’ lyrically it has deep personal meaning to the song writer, and another performed with great passion.
Overall I thought the band’s debut production was tight and impressive, Every band member has worked hard and been able to show their talent at some point during the album, honestly can’t wait to see what comes next. Listeners will get caught up in their energy and passion. I say BUY it and WATCH them LIVE.
