The Jet 65
When a band describes themselves as Jacksonville Florida no frills Rock n Roll, it doesn’t give a lot away other than that they’re keeping it simple and doing what they love. This is exactly the statement that Jet 65 made about their music when they got in touch, so I figured that this was going to be a case of letting the music do the talking for them! The guys were kind enough to whack us through a link to check out their video for Dirty Water, so I hit play to see what was going on.
As Dirty Water gets going it’s clear that this is no messing about rock music, the guitars doing all the talking at first before ushering in a solid but simple drum line, the feeling of old skool rock oozing out of the speakers as the funky mix continues to grow. The mix isn’t over the top, isn’t overly heavy and doesn’t have any unnecessary elements built into it, instead offering solid down to earth and real rock n roll music. Alternating between the hard hitting distorted guitar line and a more melodic and emotional acoustic line, the mix continues to surprise as the track progresses, offering up catchy hooks, moments that make you want to dance, and moments which make you want to sit back and just listen. In short – this is good old rock n roll, and it’s done damned well.
I’ve always liked the older style of rock music as it’s what I grew up listening to as a child, so to hear a band bringing back in that idea of simplified rock n roll is excellent to see. If the band can stick to this approach and stay true to their roots then I’ve no doubt that these guys will be a band we see more of, definitely one to keep an eye on to see what comes next.
