The Omega Particle
We were recently put onto The Omega Particle from Manchester, to check out their new EP, Cremation of Worlds. The band have set out to invigorate a ‘stagnant and tired modern metal scene’ with their original approach to music, fusing brutal heavy rhythms with melody and progressive elements. This 5 piece seem to have set their sights pretty high, so we thought it only right we see what they had on offer!
Opening with Warcry, we’re greeted by a strange sound effect to lead us into the beginning of the track, describing a nuclear explosion as it grows, suggesting that what is to follow is going to be pretty damned heavy! I’m not sure heavy does what follows justice as we’re tossed into a distorted world of guttural roars, heavy guitars, rolling drums and pounding bass lines, the whole mix forming a track which is either going to get you moving or scare the hell out of you! Raw, powerful and heavy from start to finish, this is the sort of track which is going to flatten live venues, rip crowds into a frenzy and leave towns as nothing but dust – awesome start! Exsanguinate follows on, launching into a track full to the brim with distorted guitars but enough catchy hooks to get anyone converted to the way of Omega. The music is heavy sure, but there’s a real sense of melody running through this one, keeping the track alive and encouraging you to keep listening, luring you in to find out what is going to follow and how they’re going to keep this pace going. What I found most striking about this track was the guitar work, it seems to rove from mind melting riffs through to intricate lead lines which leave you gasping at what they’re coming up with, melding the whole lot together to craft a sound which quite simply amazes me. Kalia III follows much the same theme, roving from fast sections to all out intricate moments of sheer musical genius, the whole time managing to combine all of the elements within the band to craft a sound which they can firmly call their own. Raw and powerful throughout, this is a track for the metal die hards out there, throwing every conceivable element required out and crafting a track which is going to leave you begging for one more taste. Closing with For We Bring Appocalypse, your one final treat from the band is a final insight into what they can do when they set their minds to it, combining their harder elements with softer, more melodic moments of singing. The final mix you end up with in this track is one which is going to leave you questioning how the hell you’ve never heard of these guys before and marvelling at what you’ve heard. Fast and powerful, yet carefully crafted throughout, this final track suggests that this is a band who aren’t going to stop until they’ve reached the top, something they should have no trouble doing based on what they’ve done here. This EP from The Omega Particle is one which transports you through the world of metal, showing you what a band can do when they set their minds on it, how they can craft music which can blow your mind and leave you gasping for more after 4 tracks. The tracks will be even more powerful on the live scene I think, so this is going to be a band to make sure you get out and check out as soon as you can!
