Through The Ashes
California based Through The Ashes got in touch about their music for us to have a listen to. Describing themselves as offering chunky guitar riffs, moody vocals, primal drum beats and vicious bass tones, this sounds like a band who need to be checked out!
Opening with Cold Impression I’m in no doubt that these guys know what they’re doing. Chunky riffs abound as the solid drum beats and bass line build up to the in your face vocals. Taking on a solid metal edge these guys add their own funky edge to proceedings, offering up a catchy chorus to keep the listener engaged and rolling along with them. The track bounds onwards falling back on those rolling drums and keeping the guitars and vocals intense throughout. What really struck me with this track was the rolling dual layered guitar throughout, the harmonies created work incredibly well with the vocals to create a sound which is both catchy yet haunting at the same time.
Infected follows on sounding like a well crafted track from the outset. The guitar riffs combine with the lead line and bass to create an incredibly well produced sound which will have you questioning how these guys aren’t bigger yet. As the vocals kick in the track takes its full form sounding chunky and sludgy at the same time, raw yet emotionally charged, it’s a mish mash which works really quite well indeed. This track is once again catchy in its own right, sounding unique yet familiar in some way, it’s very well done. As it fades and Unmask The Enemy kicks in a lead line takes over to introduce the track before the pace picks up a notch and the track powers head first onwards. Rolling drums steal the show here underpinning the rest of the band and adding a sense of pace to things. The guitars all work together to create a massive chunky sound which the vocals serve to further develop, the result is a track which is massive, melodic and catchy.
Final track The Ashes finishes the selection in epic style, kicking straight into guitars, building drums and an epic lead line faded in behind everything. Building up you can’t help but know this is the last track in the selection, it’s like a finale to what they’ve shown you so far yet it promises to deliver more. At 57 seconds in length it’s a purely instrumental track, and whether it’s supposed to be the first or the last track it’s one which will have you sitting up and begging for some more.
The sound which Through The Ashes have managed to achieve is one which I think a lot of bands try for yet few achieve. Offering up well crafted tracks and well played instruments their music is a treat to listen to from start to finish. 4 tracks simply aren’t enough from a band like this as you’ll be left wanting to hear more, wanting to know what else the band have got up their sleeve, and I can’t wait to see.
