Throw Logic - Counterfeit
Chris from Throw Logic, previously known as Two Dollar Grey, recently put me onto their spanking new track, Counterfeit, to see what I thought of things. With a new album due out on the 16th of July 2013, the guys have released this preview track to begin building up the anticipation, demonstrating their journey and development, and presenting us with a reason to be excited about the upcoming release of Breaking December. At this stage you may be asking, ‘why should I be excited about this release’ – so allow me to explain.
From the moment the track bursts into being one thing is clear, the chaps have been working hard. Launching onwards with an electronically tinged guitar and drum combo, the bass heavy rhythms grab you and toss you straight into a fast paced, melodic and hard hitting melee of elements, immediately grabbing your attention and luring you in to listen harder. Heavy without being overbearing yet melodic without being soft, the mix on offer here manages to tread that thin line between radio friendly and true to the fans, achieving their goal with aplomb. Packed with hooks throughout and even throwing in a breakdown of sorts, as the track comes to a close there’s no doubt in my mind that it’s doing what it should, suggesting damned good things about the album and ensuring that a buzz is well and truly created – I’ve a feeling that this is going to be an album to check out.
I’ve been blessed to be able to keep an eye on Two Dollar Grey through their development, so to see them being born again under Throw Logic, it’s awesome to see them hitting out with a sound that perfectly matches what we’d hope to hear. Demonstrating the hard work and determination that has gone into making the album, the single here, Counterfeit, is a reminder that when a band create a sound and work hard to push it, the results can be spectacular – and a track that you’re going to want to hear.
