Two Dollar Grey - On Tour!
The rapidly rising modern rock band Two Dollar Grey hits the road for a summer tour coming to a city near you from August 18 thru September 2, 2012.
Meshing a diverse list of musical influences ranging from The Police, U2, Meshuggah and Pantera Two Dollar Grey came together in the summer of 2010 and instantly began creating their uniquely styled version of “Groove Rock” that has propelled them to featured performances with such heavy hitters as Cold, Powerman 5000, Taproot, Egypt Central, Karnivool, Adema and Burn Halo along with appearances at such great high profile events as the 2011 Fiesta Bowl Block Party in Tempe, AZ. Take all this and combine it with an intense and rapidly growing national fan base, Two Dollar Grey’s music has spread across the country attracting the attention of producer Jeremy Parker (Mudvayne, Cold, Godsmack, Slipknot) who will help build on all of this initial success by producing the band’s first full length album set for release in late fall of 2012 and featuring the singles In Your Head and Forgive Me hitting radio now. The band now brings all of this momentum to a city near you with a summer tour set from August 18 thru September 2, 2012.
Eager to break the mold of most of the current mainstream rock acts Two Dollar Grey has relentlessly worked to create a unique sound and live show that has allowed them to continue piling up fans and great reviews from critics such as us when we recently stated:
...these guys know how to craft tracks which are going to keep audiences wanting more and have them singing along from the word go... If you’re looking for chunky riffs, hammering drum parts, rumbling bass lines and vocals which are going to leave shivers running up and down your spine for days to come, Two Dollar Grey are for you, and you won’t be disappointed.

Two Dollar Grey - New Tracks!
Having featured Two Dollar Grey before on both Loud-Stuff and more recently, Rock Industry, I’ve been looking forward to seeing how their final tracks ended up following hearing them in the early stages of recording. As such, when Chris dropped me a line about two of the tracks saying that they’re mastered, I jumped at the chance to check out how things were turning out!
Forgive Me is the first track I got to check out from the two, and my god the guys have done well. When I last heard the track (before mastering) there was a sense that this was going to be a good track, but it was a rough recording so it was hard to say for sure. Now that the track has been fully mastered what you’ve got is a track which is not only mind-blowingly heavy, but also catchy, powerful and melodic throughout. The chorus is the real key behind the track, showing that these guys know how to craft tracks which are going to keep audiences wanting more and have them singing along from the word go. There’s some slight changes to this final version to the previous one I heard before as well, all of which further accentuate the vocal line and demonstrate that these guys are going to be a serious force to be reckoned with, we just need to get them over to these shores so we can go and see them!
In Your Head takes all of the preconceptions you may have had about the lack of distortion and throws them aside, launching you straight into a melee of hammering guitar lines, rolling drums, pounding bass rhythms and more of those soaring vocal lines. Once again managing to incorporate a catchy edge into things, this is yet another track which demonstrates how far these guys have come as a band, taking on the advice and recommendations they’ve received to ensure their sound is continuing to evolve and develop as it grows along with the band. I said it the first time I heard this track I’m sure, but the mid section where the vocals take on a roar and the whole track breaks down is quite simply phenomenal, showing that this band have got one serious edge when they want to show it – this is one hell of a track and something which you need to make sure you check out.
I’ve been really lucky to hear the recording process with these guys, hearing the tracks before mastering and now hearing the final versions – and the finished product is everything I had hoped it would be. If you’re looking for chunky riffs, hammering drum parts, rumbling bass lines and vocals which are going to leave shivers running up and down your spine for days to come, Two Dollar Grey are for you, and you won’t be disappointed.

Two Dollar Grey
We were recently contacted by Chris Gimino about Phoenix based Two Dollar Grey. Featuring songs and a live show infused with pounding rhythms and soaring melodies, their bio states that the band’s approach to music has made them a must see in only one year of existence. Having performed with the likes of Powerman 5000, Taproot and the mighty Cold (who by the way, never seem to tour the UK so I’ve never managed to see them live, but Year of the Spider is an awesome album!) these guys seem to be on the right tracks to world domination! As such, I figured it was only right that I check out what was on offer!
You Don’t Belong is the first track (and single) which I heard from the bands new EP, Saw You There. The track fades into being over pounding drums, soaring riffs and a bass heavy rhythm before ushering in the gravelly and powerful vocals. Funky, catchy and to the point, this is a track which straight away gets you moving, you want to be in the pit watching these guys. The chorus section is quite simply a triumph on this track, it slows everything down momentarily before once again picking up the pace, but that little slow accentuates the power of the track making this a true contender for some serious air play. Sticking to the fast to slow back to fast method throughout, this is a track which will work its way into your head and stay there, and this is only the first track!
Did Me Right follows on and once again, smashes you over the head with one hell of a slamming riff to kick proceedings off. Fading the riff out, soon enough we’re back in slower palm muted territory, the backing music backing up the vocals which are once again powerful yet clean, soaring over the distorted backing mix. Catchy once again, this is another track which will grab your attention and not let you go until the second which the band are ready to let go as well as demonstrating why they have been able to share the stage with the names that they have. Title track Saw You There is soon upon us and once again opens in style. Hammering riffs greet you as pounding drums pummel you to the floor, the vocals entering there after to sooth you whilst the backing music continues its distorted journey. Melodic throughout, this track is far more emotionally charged than the ones before, there’s something about this which once again engages you but this time makes you just sit back and question life, it’s another example of a damned powerful track. This is a track which is built for the live scene, the vocals will soon have you chanting along to ‘I saw you there’, something which I personally think is going to get the live crowds going. If the vocals don’t, then the heavy break in the middle part of the track certainly will – there’s so many sections in this one track yet they all work in perfect harmony.
Ready Or Not follows on, opening once again in the tried and tested method to make sure you haven’t forgotten who it is you’re listening to. There’s something quite disjointed about this track as it progresses, almost as if the vocal line shouldn’t work over the complex backing track, yet somehow the band have managed to fit it all together. Another emotionally charged track, the melodic edge to this one is simply sublime and will lift you from any bad mood or down moment – certainly one to check out! All too soon though we’re on the last track from the selection in the form of Come Undone. This track finishes the selection for me in style, opening heavy once again but charged with soaring melodies and catchy hooks, this is the sort of song I can imagine sitting and learning to play on the guitar as if just makes you want to be part of what the band is doing. Adding a further dimension through some female vocals, this track is an example of how accomplished this band really is, they can take their own ideas and combine them with what you expect to hear to create a monster which you won’t expect, but it’s damned good!
I’ve really been taken aback by Two Dollar Grey, there’s just something about their music which I seem to connect with. It’s easy to see why they’ve gained the support slots which they have when you hear the music, it’s engaging and catchy yet powerful and emotional, truly a triumph! Based on this, I think there’s a bright future for these guys, I just hope they get over to this side of the Atlantic to get some more attention as personally, I think they’re going to be very well received indeed!
