Upper 90

Picture
We were recently contacted by Upper 90 about some of their tracks to see what we thought. Throwing out alternative punk rock, this US based 5 piece our aiming to get out on the road this summer to make new fans and friends, so I thought we’d see if we could help them along over on these shores to give them a bit of a headstart!

Insomniac opens proceedings on the bands Facebook page, offering us an insight into the softer side of the band with their acoustic stylings. Soft and melodic from the off, this is a track which is going to get you sitting down, thinking and simply letting the music work its way into your head. Well written and catchy throughout, what you’ve got on show here is a band who are able to take a style (in this case alt punk rock) and turn it into their own sound – they’ve taken ownership here and the result is a track which is going to stand up against the heavy weights of the industry.

At Your Door doesn’t follow quite the same conventions, this time opening with a heavy guitar line and pounding rhythm section, showing that they’re not a one trick pony by any means. Fast paced and heavy from the off, the guys still manage to incorporate an element of melody into their music and craft a sound which you can well imagine yourself singing along to on the live scene. What I particularly liked about this track was the way it progresses, offering moments when you’re going to sit back and others which are going to get live crowds jumping and going crazy for the band – it’s the sort of track which is going to get a hell of a lot of people switched on to these guys.

I love it when we find a band like Upper 90 as their sound is so fresh and untainted that it’s impossible to resist. Catchy, powerful and melodic throughout, this is the sort of thing which you’re going to love on the live scene, the sort of thing which is going to renew your faith in music, and the sort of thing which is going to make these guys a serious force to be reckoned with on the scene – well recommended.
