Vier
Sounding like a brand of beer, Vier from Brighton have been recommended to us to check out. I’ll be completely honest, normally I’m wary of all female bands, the last one I listened to being Kittie (who did one good song, Charlotte I think it was called)not being the best example ever and I think that put me off. The band talk of their Deftones-esque vocals and instrumental sections influenced by Stone Sour, so this could well be a winning combination!
Opening track Wrong proves one thing, wrong can infact be right! The track kicks in with a slamming instrument section underpinning haunting vocals, sounding almost Disturbed like in the production of the over all track. As the track progresses, different sections contrast one another and create a sound beyond anything I’ve heard before, it’s a mash up of different influences and styles, all of which combine to form a track which is heavy, melodic and catchy at the same time, it’s a bizarre mix which works well! Breaking down half way through to hauntingly creepy vocals over simplified music, this track will stay with you even after it’s done.
Second track Beautiful Wrath kicks in where the last track left off, slamming drums and double bass with guitars riffing over the top. The vocals once again kick in hauntingly over the top of the mix and create that sound which I began to love in the first track, only this time it’s been slowed down and made heavier somehow. Again there’s something haunting about this track in the way it’s performed, it lingers in your ears after you’ve finished listening to it and makes you want to return to it just to make sure you heard it correctly!
Vier have changed my opinion of all female bands, they’ve proven that they can infact create a massive sound which matches any of the all male bands. Whilst that sounds sexist as I say it, please understand it’s not intended like that, all I’m saying is that this band have proven they are capable of standing along side any of the other bands I’ve ever featured on this site and holding their own. I hope to hear a lot more from Vier as well as hoping to check them out live to see what the live show is like!
Check them out and you’ll understand what I mean, this is some serious stuff!
