Meaning of I (2011)
Described as Progressive Metal. I would say, new age ‘slightly’ glam rock. Their sound and performance reminds me of 80’s heavy metal. These guys are definite crowd pleasers, with a loyal Perth following. I caught up with the band on 30th June at the Rosemount in Perth, their first local gig after touring the states throughout May and June.
Danny engaged with the crowd from the off. Their original material is dark and heavy, the same cannot be said for the bands performance and aura. They are a happy bunch of musicians who embrace their fans and engage with their crowd with a pleasing sense of humor. Having never seen them before it’s hard to judge if their experience in the states has influenced their showmanship, either way it was fun to see their rock star attitude and joyful disposition. Music quality at the Rosemount is never guaranteed to be perfect. I did overhear one patron complain that the show was just ‘Too Loud to Enjoy’ Personally I thought maybe a touch, however still very enjoyable. Voyager fans were steadily arriving in time for their time slot at 11.15pm and the Rosemount was quite full. Lots of headbanging, and rocking out by the crowd. Voyager took the opportunity to present Brandon, the man who drove them throughout the states, with a framed picture map/diary of their adventures across the US. It was great to see the band appreciate someone who had clearly contributed to the bands comfort and success during that time. This is the type of band and show that will not be happy to take time off from performing, so although their isn’t any scheduled shows coming up in the immediate future, I’m sure there will be soon. Even if you have never seen them or heard their material, if you are a fan of the 80’s heavy metal era of today’s more melodic rock with modern influences – check them out, you will leave the gig smiling.
