Waking Theo - NEW VIDEO
When I said I was looking forward to checking out some more stuff from Waking Theo, I didn't expect it to be quite this soon! That said, I'm not going to lie, when Garry from SAN PR got in touch to let us know that they'd released a new video and we had the chance to check it out, I was pretty stoked!
So, check out the video below for the track To The Lions from their EP, Reborn. This track seems to pretty much sum up the sound of the band so should give you a good idea of what to expect from them - check it out and see what you reckon!

Waking Theo
Garry from SAN PR recently dropped us a line letting us know about Waking Theo, a metal unit coming out of Yorkshire with a hell of a reputation ahead of them. Described as relentless and uncompromising, soaring and intricate and with the ability to walk the line between extreme and accessible, these guys are set to release their new EP, Reborn, on Monday the 11th of February, and we’ve managed to get a copy sent through to us so we know what to expect! As such, I figured that we should check out what was going on, so settled back and hit play!
As To The Lions gets things in motion we’re immediately tossed into a heavy melee of hammering guitar lines, rolling drums and pounding bass rhythms, it’s a mix which is sure to get you moving from the word go, and won’t let go until the second they’re good and ready. Roaring vocals come I to bolster the mix, forming the track into something heavy, powerful, yet accessible enough to be open to convert new fans across to them – something very few bands can achieve. What’s most striking about the opening moments of this EP is how balanced the whole mix is, the guys have managed to form a sound which is pretty damned heavy, yet full of intricate melodies which lift it to a new level, showing off the musicianship within the band and giving you an understanding of just how able a band we’re dealing with here.
Moving on to Downcast the theme of powerful riffs continues, once again bolstering the mix with hammering rhythms which, when played loud, are going to shake the foundations of your house to dust. This is some serious stuff on offer here, roaring through the track and showing us the heavy side of things, showing us just how powerful a distortion pedal can be when it’s used well, and what the results can be when a band understands what they’re doing. Once again there’s intricate elements thrown into the mix here, allowing the track to elevate from simple heaviness to a sound which incorporates elements of almost progressive intricacy. Fear not though, this is another example of a band not going too far or over the top, and the guys manage to balance the intricate moments with the heavy ones, resulting in a sound which makes you want to get in a pit, but also encourages you to think about what you’re hearing!
Closing with title track Reborn it’s almost as if the band have saved the best for last, finishing with a final hurrah which doesn’t just raise the bar for the guys, it showcases their style in one final moment of sheer genius. Once again balancing out the heaviness (and at times it’s seriously heavy!) with those intricate moments which are testament to their abilities, this final track holds everything you could possibly want from a metal track, offered up in style to close the EP. Even going so far as to throw a catchy chorus into the mix, this final moment finishes the EP in style, opens the door for what is to follow, and lets us know that what ever comes next, it’s going to be damned impressive to check out.
I’ve been blown away by Waking Theo, they’ve managed to take a sound I thought I knew and made it their own, offering up a sound which is brutally heavy, yet melodic and intricate at the same time. From start to finish this is an EP which showcases a band that we should all be taking note of, a band who are set to hit the scene with a hell of a bang, and a band who I think are going to make one hell of an impact. Make sure you check these guys out, you won’t be disappointed.
