Wolf - Charlotte has a word!
Interview with Niklas and Simon (WOLF)
Before performing with Evile at The Cellar, Southampton I managed to catch Niklas Stålvind and Simon Johansson for a quick interview. We talk about how different the metal scenes are in both Sweden and England, any upcoming music and what their power would be if they were a superhero. First I would like to mention that they were both lovely boys as were the rest of the band and that I hope they return to the UK soon. I also have an audio version of this interview so here is the transcript:
Charlotte: Hi there I’m Charlotte Whittingham from Loud Stuff.com. I am currently at The Cellar in Southampton with Simon and Niklas from Wolf who are to support Evile tonight, first I would like to welcome you both back to the UK so far are you enjoying it here so far?
Simon: It’s been really great; most of the tour has been done. It is our last show tonight and everything has been really good.
Niklas: Actually it has been fantastic to tour with Evile, actually we are co-headlining on this tour but something went wrong with marketing.
Simon: Even with that it has been great.
Charlotte: How does it feel to be back in Southampton? From what I understand you’ve played here before
Simon: Yeah we played here last year with Firewind, so I think this would be great. It was great last time and last year it was our first show of that tour [with Firewind]. Tonight it is our last show of the tour.
Charlotte: What have the highlights of the tour been?
Niklas: London last night was pure magic and we always have a good crowd in London and this was amazing.
Simon: Yeah it was really really good and Manchester was great too.
Niklas: Yeah Manchester will be one of those moments you will remember for a very long time.
Charlotte: How would you compare the metal scene here in the UK to back in Sweden?
Simon: They are more umm what’s it called….
Niklas: There is lots of metal fans in Sweden but we have another culture. In Sweden we play very late at night when people are really drunk like twelve o clock, one o clock. People often tend to go out at that time. Here [in the UK] is more like another culture where people go out and see a band and maybe afterwards drink beers. People drink after the show.
Charlotte: So I suppose playing at ten o clock at night or even half 8 seems quite an early time.
Simon: Yeah it is but I like it because you can relax afterwards and talk to everyone after the show. Whereas in Sweden if we headlined we will be playing very late where the venue will just be closing up and people will be too drunk to talk to you.
Charlotte: So here’s a fun question, imagine you two are superheroes. What would your power be, who would your sidekick be, your love interest and arch nemesis?
Niklas: I would be the Invisible Man so I can stalk women all night long, my sidekick would be Simon but I don’t what superhero he would be. My nemesis would be Super Cop, because he has tried to catch me but I make myself invisible.
Simon: I would be Superwoman I guess, I always want to try out how it is being a woman and my arch nemesis would be Superman of course.
Niklas: They are married and their marriage is falling apart, close to divorce.
Simon: I would like the ability to take over girls minds.
Quick Fire
Charlotte: MacDonalds or KFC?
Simon: MacDonalds
Charlotte: Steak House or Bistro?
Niklas: Steakhouse, I love steak.
Charlotte: Leather or Denim?
Simon: Leather
Niklas: Demin and leather
Charlotte: Tattoos or piercings?
Simon: Tattoos
Niklas: I don’t know, I have never had tattoos apart from on I made myself when I was 13. It made me realise I should tattoo myself. I want to be different
Charlotte: Worst TV show?
Simon: What’s that show called… Bold and Beautiful, I don’t like that.
Niklas: I don’t own a TV, most of it is rubbish anyway.
Charlotte: Simon, your debut performance with Wolf was at Bloodstock. Would you like to perform at Bloodstock again?
Simon: Hopefully we will play there again, that was my first performance as an official member. I performed there two years earlier as a stand in for WASP. As official performance it was my first performance.
Niklas: I would love to perform there again next year because King Diamond are headlining.
Charlotte: If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be?
Niklas: India because it would be really cool. That’s where we’re playing next month actually, we are headlining a huge festival in Bangalore.
Simon: That would be cool, but I would love to perform in Tokyo, Japan.
Charlotte: Last question, can we expect any new material from Wolf in the near future?
Simon: Yeah we are working on a new album but it takes a while to collect the songs together and then record to get them released.
Niklas: But we are working in it [new album].
Simon: We are doing this tour and it’s the last show tonight. Then we’ll get back home to Sweden and play a show in Stockholm and next weekend we’ll go to Norway then to India. When the touring is finished then we’ll start to work on the new material. That’s the plan.
Charlotte: Thank you Simon and Niklas for doing the interview and good luck with the show tonight.
