10 Questions we ask every band...
Black Cat Theory
|
1). What are the names of your members?
Black Cat Theory are Steve Martin – Singer and Stuart Bell who plays all instruments on the album and does backing vocals. 2). When did you all get together? Black Cat Theory began life as a one-man studio project for Stuart Bell in 2006. As he is a multi-instrumentalist he had most of the album recorded albeit in a different form. He needed a singer/songwriter to come in and help him finish the album which would become Magnetic Fields. He replied to an ad Steve Martin had on a musicians site in 2010 and asked him to see if he could write for the songs. Steve, totally blown away by the quality of the songs, got straight to work, writing the lyrics and vocal melodies as well as revising some of the arrangements. We recorded the album in its’ entirety at Stuart’s studio, he produced, mixed and mastered it. We finished the album and released it in August 2011 exclusively on our website. Black Cat Theory as a band entity was born. 3). How did you all meet? As above, we met through the ad. 4). How would you describe your music? Catchy, anthemic metal with shades of light, almost delicate acoustics and dark, menacing distorted textures, moving through musical soundscapes of rock and electronica with hooks so good you’ll need a brain surgeon to get them out of your head and the guitar solos alone will have you all getting out the air guitar and shredding it till you get carpal tunnel. 5). Who are your major influences? All the gods of rock and metal really… Pantera, Metallica, Priest, Guns N’Roses, Stone Sour, Slipknot, Creed, Shinedown and Savatage. 6). Complete the sentence: One day as a band we hope to… One day as a band we hope to be taking our music to the biggest audience possible. We hope that people really identify with our music and moves them in some way. The interpretation is up to the listener. 7). Why should people listen to your music? The album was handmade with genuine love for the music and the creativity it inspired in us both. We tried to create a state of the art brand of melodic, metallic mayhem - spanning the gamut from delicate acoustic soundscapes to cathartic riff-fests and beyond into uncharted realms of electro-trickery, searching synths, melodic hooks, and menacing riffs. The songs were created with great love for the process and an overall conceptual way of thinking that we hope people feel through the music and lyrics we have laid down. To that end if you love it we've succeeded in what we set out to do. It was a lot of work for just two guys but it was worth every minute! 8). What are your plans for the upcoming year? We want 2012 to be the year that people really know who we are and what we are about. We will be targeting more radio airplay and more magazine coverage. We also plan to complete the band line-up and take the show on the road and give people one hell of a live event! At the moment we are also writing for the follow-up to Magnetic Fields. We have quite an arsenal of new songs already and we hope we can surpass our first album and produce something that may get us signed. Magnetic Fields was our first project together as a songwriting duo and we want to take it further and show more colours from our palette. 9). What albums/EP’s have you released so far and where can people get hold of them? We have released one album to date called Magnetic Fields. It is available to download FREE @www.blackcattheory.co.uk. Some tracks from the album are available to listen to on Facebook too and they can get to know the band and receive status updates on what we are up to @ www.facebook.com/blackcattheoryband 10). Finally – say something profound that will make everyone think : Once upon a time in a town called Dereliction, there stood the carnival Mircalla where once inside you're never going home again. Dark dreams are sown in the periphery of your vision, beckoning you to Come On Inside, transporting you on an adrenaline junkie roller-coaster ride into the theatre of hell driven by crushing riffs and insanely catchy choruses by the entity Black Cat Theory, to drop you over the edge and leaving you screaming for more. Strange, menacing spectres called the Sons Of Destiny come for your soul. Once dropped like a stone into your own personal room in the Lakeview Hotel you see This Human Chain reflected on the Windows Of Memory, showing bothPoets And Madmen standing screaming I Am The Hurricane beneath the Blind One Way sign…and so the story begins... |
