BLACK MARKET SEROTONIN – SOMETHING FROM NOTHING ALBUM
Look beyond the surface blast here and you’ll find a thing of beauty. BMS may love their Iron Maiden and their Jesus And Mary Chain albums, but they also know the value of a good, subtle chord change when they create one, as evinced by songs such as ‘Purity’ and ‘Hours’, which linger long in the ear after the disc has stopped spinning. BMS also are not so much in love with classic riffage and hooks that they forget to put their own voice across – a fate that has befallen many similar bands to them. Vocalist Andrew Pimblott has a dark and alluring voice that snares the ear right from the outset. Lee Campbell’s bass guitar and Michael Colman’s pounding, propulsive drumming ably back him up. This, along with some tasteful experimentation, makes for a thoroughly exciting listen, which should easily translate into a fantastic live experience on any upcoming tours.

Black Market Serotonin
When Garry from SAN PR drops us a line about a band and says he’s excited about the release, I normally get pretty damned excited too, so when it happened the other day and we were dropped the new single from Black Market Serotonin, I was looking forward to checking things out. Irons In The Fire is the new single taken from their debut album, Something From Nothing, released on Monday the 29th of April 2013, and a track which marks their sharpest statement to date. Combining the sounds of the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Muse, Tool and Deftones, this is a single which is ticking all of the right boxes before we’ve even hit play – so what of the sound?
Immediately kicking into being with an industrial sound combined with an upbeat sense of pure rock, there’s a dark edge to things here, a sound which lures you in but keeps that sense of anticipation running through things. Melodic yet dark from the off, the almost new wave sound which creeps out of the speakers here is one which is sure to be embraced by fans of progressive rock, industrial metal and those who just want a track to bang their heads to. Even going so far as to offer up a catchy chorus packed with hammering guitars, rolling drums and powerful guitar lines, the track seems to go from strength to strength, growing all of the time and showing that this is a band we should all be sitting up and paying some serious attention to. Refusing to let you lose focus until the very closing of the track, this is a single which suggests damned good things from the album, and makes me want to get out to see these guys on the live scene for sure.
When you’re faced with a band who are able to mix their styles so well it’s impossible to resist the lure of their music. From start to finish here we’ve got a track which is powerful, melodic and in your face, yet at the same time laid back enough to connect with newer fans. Black Market Serotonin are a band on the up for sure – get on and check them out!
