Cryostorm
Cryostorm were kind enough to get in touch about their album which they’re launching with an appearance at this years Bloodstock festival. Figuring I should check them out before they move into the realms of big band status, I’ve had a listen to see what it is they do!
As soon as Destroyer of Ardor kicks in you can see why these guys are playing Bloodstock, it’s massive! The drums sounds created accompanied by the roving guitars all behind some serious vocals is quite incredible. The track seems to roll around the room bring in different elements of guitar and bass to back everything up throughout, this is a new level right here.
Furnacing (I Defrost) continues the level set down by the first track but seemingly adding in an electronic element to open the track. Once again though once the drums begin rolling and the guitars take the lead I found myself thinking about how on earth a band like this had slipped under my radar so far. This track is without a doubt my favourite from the selection here as it is so massive and so deep I was really taken aback by just how on earth they could achieve such a sound. This question continued as I Am Anomaly kicked in, again using those guitars and drums to really push the track onwards then bringing in the vocals to force them down the ear holes of everyone listening to them. These tracks are seriously well produced, well performed and in all, well written!
Beyond Victory opens a little softer than those so far, fading the guitar in with some phaser effects before hammering home their point again. Taking on a more jumpy edge this time, this track is yet another example of why this band will be a success, they’ve got all of the elements which are needed from a metal band. Breaking down in the chorus to a ridiculously heavy sound all backed by the roaring vocals, I found myself sitting thinking about how much I now want to go to see these guys live, this is some serious stuff! As Solacing kicked in I found this once again secured, opening with electronic sounds and drums before building with the guitars, this track would be at home alongside any big band I can think of. Cryostorm have achieved a massive sound which continues to push boundaries throughout each of their tracks, always keeping the listener on their toes as to what is going to come next from them.
Final track Cryostorm opens with rolling drums behind the guitars, again creating this mix of sounds from the start which will have you sitting up and listening just to make sure you’re listening to the right thing. This track is the perfect one to finish the selection here, using all of those elements again to create this heavy yet incredibly melodic mix of downright awesome musicianship – I’m genuinely taken aback by it all still.
Cryostorm strike me as a band who must be awesome live, they create such a huge sound that I cannot wait to witness it for myself, just to make sure everyone else there shares my view. I am sure that these guys are going to go from success to success and wish them all the best with the future, I can’t wait to hear what comes next!
