Dirty Paris
We were recently contacted by Australian band, Dirty Paris to see what we thought of some of their tracks. Mixing influences from the likes of Icehouse, Nickelback, Def Leppard and The Sweet to create a unique sound, these guys seem to have already established themselves in the Perth and Melbourne area, so we thought it only right we check them out!
Sex Fiend Tonight suggests good things are to follow, opening with a sludgy bass line and solid drum line underpinning a dark vocal sound effect, the mix adopts a sound which is going to not only have you out of your seat and moving, but also banging your head along with the riffs being thrown out at you. There’s a real feel of ‘Dirty Americans’ style rock music going on here, it’s the combination of the vocal line and hammering backing track, all forming a mix which is going to pull you in and make you fall for this band. The real show stealer throughout the track has to be the progression which they’ve managed to achieve, each section follows the previous perfectly and creates a sound which you’re going to crank up ever higher until the entire street are on the same page as you.
Taking The Town continues the dark and ominous theme in the backing music whilst the vocals lead you by the hand through the dark mix. There’s a real sense of good time rock here which you’re going to want to sing along to, the whole mix once again forming something which harks back to more classic rock bands whilst still managing to keep things fresh and new, it’s a confident mix from the band and demonstrates their ability to craft tracks which people are going to enjoy. This is quite possibly my personal favourite track from the selection that the guys sent through to me, there’s just something about it which is engaging and enjoyable whilst still keeping you on guard so you listen to everything.
Jekyll and Hyde finishes the selection from the band and boy does it leave you wanting more, the mix taking on a bassy approach once again, keeping the beat simple so that this is damned straight solid rock music which the masses are simply going to lap up. The vocals are the show stealer on this track and will have you chanting along after a couple of listens, the mix keeping you out of that seat and throwing some shapes on the air guitar as the solo confirms every thought you had about the band – this is a band you need to hear!
Dirty Paris are one of those bands whose sound is going to be timeless, they don’t fit in with one particular period in music and that’s what makes it so awesome – you could have been listening to this 20 years ago but equally it still sounds just as good in the modern day. The tracks are well crafted and display a band which is able to not only play their instruments, but play as a band. This combination of musicians, and their influences has created a sound which I love, and can’t wait to hear more of.
