Engraved Disillusion Written by Chris Threlfall (Drums) 1) What are the names of your members? Chris Pugsley - Vocals Toby Stewart - Guitar Marc Matthews - Guitar Matt Thomas - Bass Chris Threlfall - Drums 2) When did you all get together? The band came together in early 2008. But it wasn’t until 2010 that we settled on the line up we have today. 3) How did you all meet? Well we all have known each other for some time and even been in bands together, for example me, Chris and Matt were in a covers band for a short time and Marc, Toby and Chris (vocals) were in another metal band for a while. I think that we all felt it was time to move on and focus on a project that had the potential to progress and where all of our musical aspirations could be expressed. Marc, Toby and Chris (vocals) has already started looking for others to join them and were advertising on the internet (I believe it was muso-finder or a website similar) and I ran into Chris and Marc in a pub one night and they said I should come for an audition. As for Matt we brought him in to replace our original bassist after he showed a keen interest in the band and he is a fantastic bassist. And that's how we got to where we are now. 4) How would you describe your music? I would say (from our point of view) it's hard to describe as it wasn't written to a particular set of rules or to be a certain genre, we didn't set out to me a melodic death metal band (which I would say is the category in which we have been placed) it's just how the music has come out. We all have our own influences that we bring to the table and a fair few of them show in our music if you know where to look (or listen). From the listeners perspective, our songs can range from heavy riff's and double pedal with ear-splitting screaming from Chris, to slow instrumental sections with melody and feeling and slower pace solos perhaps even with some strings thrown in for good measure. Our music is ever evolving and changing, the album “Embers of Existence” for example spreads over two years of our lifetime as a band. From the first notes of “Under bloodred skies” (the first song written for the album) through all the songs that didn't make it and the writing and “tweaking” process and the financing of the album, it really does tell a story of our progression as a band (musically not lyrically). 5) Who are your major influences? We have such a wide range of influences and each of us likes different stuff, some of which shows in our music and some doesn’t. Some of our biggest influences are bands such as; Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Unearth, Killswitch Engage, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Sylosis, In Flames, Carcass, The Black Dahlia Murder. The list is literally endless. 6) Complete the sentence: One day as a band we hope to… One day as a band we hope to... Take over the world!? … ok so we might be in the wrong neck of the woods to achieve that one, but I think we would all be more than happy to be in a full time touring, writing and recording band that could pay the bills! That's a definite long term goal for all of us, to make music our livelihood. 7) Why should people listen to your music? I think people should give us a try, I don't think were your every day, run of the mill metal band. I like to think we are somewhat original and have a lot to offer the listener, we've never been a band that is all about popularity and just put together songs with beat downs because they are expected these days. A lot of hard work and thought goes into our music and we like to think it shows through in our music, as well as our live set. 8) What are your plans for the upcoming year? We have such a long list of things we want to do and places we need to play, it is undoubtedly going to be a hectic year. We have recently had a fair amount of industry interest, resulting in us working with an independent record label (Bored Stiff Records), a booking agent (Shrine Bookings) and a PR company (Skratch the Surface). So its full steam ahead with regards to Gig's and tour opportunity’s. We have also launched a PR campaign targeting magazines, websites, and anything else to get our name out there. One thing we are really pushing (and saving) for is a music video! We have also started to write new material! 9) What albums/EP’s have you released so far and where can people get hold of them? We have our EP “Desolate” which is available from our big cartel store on hard copy, or for free download on Last FM...amongst other, slightly less legitimate websites. We also have our first full length album “Embers of Existence” which is again available from our big cartel store on CD or for download on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Napster and many others. The easiest way's to get hold of any of our stuff is to head over to: www.engravedband.co.uk there we have all of our info and links to all of our social networking sites and more.
