I Am Hated
Old friend of the site Shortie dropped me a line recently, letting me know about his latest project, I Am Hated. Formed in 2012 without a clue of what genre they are (they say it themselves I tells ya!), the guys are working hard to get their EP finished whilst working out what genre they are (something around metalz of course) and making Russ (who likes One Direction apparently….go figure!) put stupid hats on . Stupid hats and genres aside, Shortie sent me through a copy of Pretend, the first finished track from the band, and said that if I wanted to review it then I could. On top of this, this is an exclusive guys – we’re the first to hear this track outside of the band – something which is a bit of an honour, so I figured it was time to see what Shortie, Russ, Craig and John had come up with.
Launching straight into the track, the bass and guitars kick into a rolling pace whilst the drums keep everything moving, backing up the vocals and offering up a sound which is heavy, powerful and catchy, the sort of thing which holds the power of metal without the rawness. Shifting from the soaring vocals into a break down before once again picking up the pace, this is a track designed for the live scene, the sort of thing that’s sure to get people moving, eople jumping and everyone singing along throughout. Shifting into another, more prolonged break down, things continue along their merry way allowing each element of the band to be heard without blocking each other out – it’s a carefully considered mix which really accentuates everything that’s going on within the track on offer. Closing with a real sense of hammering, in your face power, the closing moments of this track almost feel like the lead into the follow up, suggesting that there’s a lot more to come still, and it’s going to be well worth looking in to.
I Am Hated have been on my radar from the word go, and ever since I found out they’d gotten together I’ve been pestering them to let me hear something as soon as it was done – and boy am I glad I did. This track represents a band setting out on a journey, a band with a raw sense of what they want to achieve, and the recording captures that sense of excitement at what is still to come. Definitely a band I’m going to be looking forward to hearing more from.
