James Warner Prophecies - Av A Bite
Derby trio James Warner Prophecies have released single Av A Bite from their album Things Change.
At first listen I was instantly taken by how upbeat and unique the single sounded; as mentioned before by us it starts with a ska type rhythm and tune, it then mixes with an indie/heavy-distorted sound. I found these two genres created a unique fusion that works very well. The video it self matches the song perfectly. I like how some of it is in stop-motion, my personal favourite type of animation, and liked in general how quirky their single and video were.
It is one of the tracks to add to your summer playlist as it is happy, upbeat and sunny yet it is something different at the same time.
Therefore I can conclude that Av A Bite is a fantastic single that gives us an insight on what to expect from their album which has been released. Check out the video below

James Warner Prophecies
We featured The James Warner Prophecies a while back and loved what we heard, so when they dropped us a line about their new stuff, we thought it only right we see what they’ve been working on since we last spoke to them. Their album, Things Change, is due out on the 12th of March – so what can you expect from it?
Opening with Define there’s immediately an upbeat and jumpy feeling to proceedings, throwing into a fast paced track full of jumpy drums and soaring vocal lines. The chorus is the key to this track, immediately taking on the catchy and accessible approach to proceedings to create a track which you’re going to find yourself singing along to for days to come. As an opening track, this does the job perfectly and will immediately get you involved with the band, wanting to hear more and to know what else is going to come up. Following with My Left Hand Waves Goodbye the theme continues, despite the opening line of ‘This is a sad song’ once again taking a jumpy and upbeat approach to the track. My favourite line has to be ‘a stupid fucking boy with a stupid fucking grin’, it just seems to sum up the feeling of this track which is going to leave you as that boy just sat there with a grin on your face loving what you’ve heard. Catchy and accessible from the outset, things are looking pretty good for this album already!
Justified comes next and immediately picks the pace up, launching into a far more frantic track to get things moving at a higher pace. There’s a sense that this track is crafted for the live scene, suggesting that this is the sort of song which is going to get live crowds going mental and loving every moment of it. This track was actually released as a charity single by the band and you can see why, it’s a moment of sheer genius on the album and one which you need to make sure you check out for sure. James Warners Last Dying Words soon takes the lead and comes as a bit of a shock initially after the upbeat approach of the previous one. Slowing everything down and once again returning to the more emotional approach of the tracks, this one almost harks to the sound of The Police in some ways, yet somehow sounds fresh and intriguing. It’s another high point on the album despite the darker emotional back drop, still one which you must make sure you hear. If that track was a moment which harked towards The Police, then Running Out is a moment which almost harks towards 90’s grunge style music in some ways, the bass heavy opening harking at AIC or Silver Chair before throwing down with one of the most epic guitar solos you’re going to come across, quite simply – this track is awesome, and quite possibly my favourite moment on the album.
Av A Bite is soon upon us, opening with a more off-piste approach as it begins to build. Almost ‘ska’ in its approach to things, this track has a real sense of fun to it, once again returning to the more upbeat style of track yet also somehow keeping that sense of dark intrigue running through it. The guitars combined with the synth do most of the work through this track, but the vocals are also something to write home about, adopting an almost rap style at times yet still managing to keep this track firmly on the rock side of the spectrum. Holes comes up to take the lead, and this track is another moment which you have to make sure you check out. From the acoustic bass heavy rhythms which open the track through to the soaring vocal lines thrown down, this is a track which seems to encapsulate the bands sense of drive and determination in a musical form – or in their words – it’s an angry song! Subterranean seems to continue this angry approach, throwing straight into a heavy riff accompanied by a pounding drum back drop, forming a track which is going to make you want to get to the gig and get in the pit. Somehow managing to combine the hard and soft approach once again, this is another track which demonstrates that these guys are going to be a force to be reckoned with!
Holding on suddenly calms everything down a little, this time opening soft with acoustic guitar lines and leading into a track tinged with emotion, full of catchy moments and a track which is going to have you sat back, sipping a beer and enjoying the environment that you’re in. Openly saying that it was written upon returning from his ladies house, this is a track full of love, one which is simply going to make you feel good about life. Things Change on the other hand marks a definite change in proceedings, opening with a heavy riff from the word go and producing one of the hardest hitting moments of the album as a whole. This track is all about forgetting about the past and knowing that what’s done is done, and as you listen to it you can’t help but feel that the past doesn’t matter, what matters is the moment you’re in right now – and it’s a refreshing take on things! Closing the album with The Itch, there’s one last moment of genius from the band, producing a track which is unlike any of the others yet somehow fits in with the ethos of the album as a whole. I guess the best word to describe this one is strange, there’s a real mix of things going on here yet once again, they all work and what you’re left with is a track which is going to confuse you at first, then get you jumping around the living room like a nutter the next moment!
The James Warner Prophecies are one of those bands who appear to have an illustrious career ahead of them. Sure, there’s moments on this album which are a little odd and a little out there, but as a whole what you’ve got is an album which will suit any occasion. From the heavy moments through to the softer ones, the weirder moments through to the ones which clearly work, there’s something here for everyone and everything, so it’s an album which put simply, you need to go and get!

James Warner Prophecies
Andy Pearson was good enough to get in touch via the website about the James Warner Prophecies who are currently recording their album, due out next year. Sending through the latest single, You Are The Sun, I thought it only fair to have a sit down and listen to what was on offer so as to prepare you for what’s to come!
Opening with soft guitars and flutes the track comes into being, fading in softly and slowly with light drums in the back ground and a roving bass line driving the vocals. Progressing onwards and building up, the vocals take on more layers becoming much deeper and put together before kicking into the chorus. Distorted guitars suddenly kicking in behind the vocals power the track up for the chorus, retaining that melodic and soft edge but adding in a new raw edge through the powerful singing. Catchy throughout, the track seems to build and build as it progresses, bringing in different elements to keep it interesting throughout. Before you know it, you’ll be singing along to ‘you are the sun’, becoming completely immersed in the harmonious and melodic music overlaid with those excellent vocals – this is a very well put together track.
I didn’t really know what to expect from The James Warner Prophecies, the name didn’t leave it open to any pigeon holing or anything like that. What I’ve discovered in this track though is one which is uplifting and emotional whilst retaining that grungy edge through the guitars. The production on the record is excellent, out matched only by the song writing which has gone into the track. I can’t wait to see what comes from the album when it arrives as based on this, it’s going to be a good one!
