Life In Theory
Here we have a band from Ayrshire, Scotland. Five guys make up this band that only formed in late January 2012 and are bringing a post hardcore/pop-punk sound to the table. Despite being a new born band, they have already gathered a fairly large following and that’s just on their Facebook page. Anyway, I checked out a sample and a demo so here’s what I thought.
I checked out the sample track first which is called Ruins; it’s an all-acoustic piece. Personally I like listening to these as you get a proper look at a band without any extra added help. The recording is raw yet pleasantly enjoyable. There’s no doubt that there’s a lot of talent on show. The vocals are impressive, definitely in the punk style that I like personally. The riff is catchy and surges along at a powerful pace. I would like to hear this track in its entirety with drums, bass etc.
Over Hands And Heads has a dark, deep opening. The riff is notably very heavy but has this addictive nature to it. I found myself liking this track instantly, I loved the regimented riff, and it’s played with real purpose and even with fairly average recording still sounds awesome. The drum beat working in tandem with the riff, pushes the track along at a relentless pace and adding an even heavier, menacing feel to the piece. By the time the vocals had kicked in I was already hooked, the rolling drums hit home with a vengeance allowing the vocals to take things to the next level. Just like the sample track, the vocals are once again very impressive. They work really well with the style of track and just by listening to these two pieces I can tell that the guys can adapt fairly easily to different style of track and still pull it off.
Loved everything I heard here, really hope the band send us through more stuff down the line. My first impressions are that these guys are going to be a must see live!
