Limp Bizkit - Gold Cobra
Rating: 8/10
Finally, the highly anticipated album from Limp Bizkit is here, and it bigger and badder than we've seen in years. Guitarist Wes Borland finally returns to the band and it now features the original line-up since 2000's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water.
It starts off typical Limp Bizkit style with the first track being a 1:22 tune mixed primarily by DJ Lethal with Fred Dursts voice in the background. The albums second track is slightly slow to start but by song number three, 'Gold Cobra', you'll be brought back to Bizkits original days which makes you forget the disappointment of the last two albums. Personally its my favorite song of the album, followed closely by track number 12, which again, is very similar to the music of Chocolate Starfish.
Of course like most albums it has some of its 'slower' songs which in this case are tracks 8 and 9, 'Walking Away' and 'Loser'. They aren't bad songs at all but in my opinion, on an album like this, they seem a tad out of place.
They're immediately followed by track number 10, 'Autotunage'. A good song on its own but it has a bit of a Papa Roach vibe to it. Unfortunately it feels like they tried to make this song a bit too commerical, as if they expect it to be another music video hit like 'Rollin' or 'Break Stuff' was. A track thats heavy enough for metal-heads to like, yet just mellow enough to play at night-clubs and for the average joe to enjoy.
Track number 12, 'Why Try' is a damn good song. Not so much for the lyrics but for the guitar riffs. Some proper Significant Other stuff.
Personally, I think its great to hear some ol' skool Bizkit again. Not every track is a gem and there will be a song or two on the album you'll skip after a few seconds but overall its got a good vibe to it. Keep em coming....
