Mad Hatter 2.0 Perseverance
We were recently contacted once again by Mad Hatter 2.0 about their EP, Perseverance, to see if we could get something up and posted for them. This is a band who we featured a while back and their music has really stuck with me, an awesome band with a lot of potential. Always on tour, these are a band you need to get out there and check out when you get the chance!
Time Of Our Lives opens with pounding drums and awesome treble high guitar riffs before bringing in the raw and edgy vocals. Adopting a rolling beat, the sound is almost funky once it kicks in, this is music which will have you moving along for sure. The vocals are really striking here, keeping them raw throughout they seem to push the track onwards, using the rolling drums and roving guitar and bass lines to emphasise the message they’re trying to get across. What you can really hear here as well is that this is a band who feed off of the live scene, the track is written to please crowds on the live scene, keeping things relatively simple whilst always making sure it’s engaging to get the crowd going. Breaking into a faster heavier section midway through, this is a track which will really sit you back and make you realise just how a band can push the boundaries of their music to achieve the sound that THEY want to play – it’s not done to please anyone which makes it not only real but awesome to hear.
Deliverance continues the theme of the previous track, opening with distorted guitars and bass being pushed forward by a pounding drum beat. The vocals once again remain raw and savage, bringing in different layers to really push the track outwards. The riff here seems to rove around the neck of the guitar, always offering something new up for consideration to make sure that the listener is still there, still listening and still looking forward to what is coming next. Breaking down midway through again, the rolling drum here really emphasises the guitar line, all underpinned with a hammering bass line – this is pure metal done fantastically well. As the track ends and This Is A War kicks in (a track we previously reviewed for the band), you’re confronted with a roving bass line which will shake the foundations of your house. I said it before and I’ll say it again, this track is one which seems to epitomise everything that the band stands for, it’s heavy, funky and clearly well put together making you want to move along with them.
Final track Suffocate ends the selection on their website perfectly, it’s funky once again yet awesomely heavy. Keeping the pace bouncing around from start to finish, this is a track which will soon have you chanting along with ‘can’t you see I’m suffocating’ and jumping around the living room like a nutter. I can only imagine what effect this track has on the live scene, but it’s something I need to get out there and see for myself!
Mad Hatter 2.0 have managed to capture the essence of a live show in their recordings with these tracks, as you listen to them you can imagine hearing them playing live, imagine how the crowd would react and imagine the feeling you would get seeing it. That said, these guys are clearly a live band so I imagine that when performed live, there would be even more energy and raw power. Like I said at the start, since we first featured these guys I’ve come back to their music several times, and once again I think I can safely say it’s going to continue.
