Mad Hatter 2.0

Mad Hatter 2.0 got in touch with us about their music so we thought it only fair to have a listen to what they’ve produced. Listening to it, I found myself drifting off into oblivion safe in the knowledge that there are bands out there who still play simple, solid, good old rocky metal music!
E.M.T opens loud, fast and heavy – which is pretty much how the rest of the track goes! The vocals bounce along with the sludgy guitars and hammering drum lines pushing the track ever onwards, if this doesn’t have you nodding your head or tapping your feet then nothing will! By the time the solo kicked in I was already thinking this was a good track, very like Disturbed at times in the vocal style but unique to the band in their own way.
Purge opens in the same way as EMT ends, continuing with the loud and raw guitars supplemented with pinch harmonics here and there, the bouncy nature of the track is bound to have crowds moving when these guys play live, something I’m going to have to try and check out! By the time I’d gotten onto Reveal Me I think I was wondering what else the band had to throw, but this presents yet another layer to their sound. Bringing in heavier vocals but keeping that funky guitar sound, this track is yet another one which will get your feet tapping along to what they’ve produced. Combining different vocal styles in the track, this track was probably my favourite from the selection (which is free to download by the way!).
Rise is another solid track with some more funky guitar lines backing up some serious vocals over a pumping drum beat, the combination gives the recording a live sound which is so often missing from recordings. As the track faded out into Spellbound, I found myself turning up the volume to hear the quiet start, if this was the plan then it worked! This track starts of quieter than the others but soon launches full tilt onwards back into that funky sound, only with a darker edge this time from the echoey, deep bass line.
This Is A War kicks in with a real funky edge but soon launches onwards, bringing back those heavy riffs and fast passed vocals which work so well. This track is probably the one I would tell people to go and listen to first, it seems to epitomise everything the band is, loud, heavy and somehow something you can see yourself moving to. As the track finished and final track, Too Much Pressure, began to play, I found myself thinking that I’d just heard something very cool. Too Much Pressure is a big track with raw guitars over a simple drum sound backed up by layered vocals, on top of all that, it’s damned catchy!
Mad Hatter 2.0 have got a solid following and tour around a hell of a lot according to their Reverb nation page so I’m sure there will be a chance for me to catch them live, based on what I’ve heard I recommend you do the same. This is simple, heavy, funky, powerful rock music which live, should get the whole venue moving from the foundations.
