Million Empire
Originally formed way back in 2007, Million Empire have already built up a reputation for playing every live show like it’s their last, forming tracks which sit in your mind, full of passion and dedicated to raw and expressive music. As is all too often the case though, the band reached their limits and burned out before coming back stronger than ever in 2012. The guys were good enough to send me through their track Don’t Get Me Started, so I figured I’d best check out what this 3 piece Birmingham Alternative Rock unit were getting up to!
Opening with a funky and light hearted riff, the track gets off to a jumpy start, forming a sound which is going to get live crowds moving from the off. Fading out the guitars to fully accentuate the bass and drums under the vocals, the track continues to build up, growing bigger and bigger until the chorus drops and everything becomes clear. Throwing down into a chorus which is going to have people singing along, people jumping and some serious recognition being achieved, this is one hell of a track. There’s elements here which show the bands earlier roots, sounding like older rock and alternative stuff yet still managing to sound fresh and exciting throughout, there’s the feel of an anthem in the waiting here, and it sounds good. Add in the obvious musical ability of the band and you’re left with a track which stands out as something you need to hear, and something which I would happily pay to see on the live scene.
I love the sound that Million Empire have got, its similar to the likes of Down The Machine so holds that impact which you’re always looking for from music. There’s no over production, no clever tricks or effects which detract from the basics of the track, instead there’s just a solid rock track, the sort of thing you look forward to seeing live as you know it’s going to be damned good fun to be a part of.
