Motherload
We were recently put onto London based Motherload by Big D from Noize Level Critical. Based on his recommendation I saw it only fair to give them a listen to see what was on offer. Stating that they bridge the gap between classic rock and contemporary metal, this promises to be something pretty damned awesome!
Opening with Hang Your Head what’s really striking is the sheer depth of the music, it’s massive. Kicking from the riff into a roving line on the guitar, the music straight away takes on a funky rock n roll twist, the vocals coming in raw and powerful to lead the way through the track. The drums pound away in the background keeping this track moving, the tempo making you want to move along. Breaking into a catchy a chorus telling you ‘it’s all in your head’, soon enough you’ll be singing along with the guys as this is some seriously awesome stuff. When the band say they’ve bridged the gap they’re not wrong, they’ve got heavy riffs and pinch harmonics underpinned by a solid beat, all accompanying a track which is pure classic rock! As an introduction to a band it doesn’t get much better than this, 1 track in and I’m already hooked. The guitar solo which comes in during the track finalises everything for me – these are guys who I have to see live and have to get a copy of their album to hear it all!
Second (and unfortunately last) track on their FB page is We Are The Authority, another pumping intro to the track suggests that things are going to continue in this vein! Kicking into a faster riff this time around, powering on but still roving around the necks of the bass and the guitars before kicking into a section which is bound to get heads banging, all good so far! The vocals are once again raw and edgy but this further develops the track, building up to the group vocals coming and then launching into the chorus – this is a high octane full on track which on the live scene is bound to have crowds of people moving along with the band.
I can’t think of a band who Big D has recommended which I didn’t like, but this one is seriously awesome! What Motherload have done is take old skool classic rock, add their own modern take to it and produced something which is quite simply awesome. The music is powerful, melodic and the sort of music you dance to – no circle pits or anything like that, just good ol’ rock n roll. I for one can’t wait to see these guys live and need to hear their whole album very very soon!
