New Age Extinction

5 lads from Dublin on a quest to make Metal-Core and melt some faces! Pretty high altitude words but they sure do sound good. Possibly one of the newest bands I’ve reviewed having only got together at the start of summer 2011. Each member of the group joined with a different taste in music, therefore the band has many big name influences such as Funeral For A Friend. I listened to a few of the guys tracks and here’s how it went down.
Sweating The Tension was the first track I chose to listen to off the bands Facebook page, there’s no holding back as from the first beat you’re thrown into the middle of a whirlwind containing insane drumming and soul numbing guitar riffs. The rasping vocals add volume to the start; it’s difficult to catch your breath when it’s all thrown at you in one sitting. The tempo slows slightly with the beats changing and it’s a welcome come down from the frantic start. The track is punchy, has a heavy feel to it and I can imagine it being a gig opener. Towards the end of the track there’s what I can only describe as a battle between thunderous drums and the high voltage electric guitars, watch out for it.
The second track was called Make Your Own Life and there’s a much calmer beginning to the track compared to the previous one. Distorted guitars and solid drum beat spar in a calmer way, there’s a quality, catchy tune to the track. There’s also two sets of vocals, the familiar raspy vocals from ‘Sweating The Tension’ and a punk rock style vocal filling in which I really enjoyed. The tempo picks up and the different vocals carry on bouncing off each other, adding those all-important layers to a track. The length of the track is key, knowing when to end a good thing is massive and the band do it well on this track, ending with one of those face melting guitar riffs.
Another lively and catchy opening set the ball in motion for this track called The Quest. Heated guitar riffs are aptly supported by earth moving rolling drums. This is my favourite track and I think the way the guys slow everything down half way through adds a whole new dimension to everything and shows that they aren’t a one trick pony. The guitar riffs throughout are quite frankly mind boggling and they just show the raw talent that’s on offer. The vocals seem to just compliment every style of every track which can sometimes be tricky, however, the band clearly do it with ease.
Ditto was the last track I decided on reviewing. An introduction to harshly beaten solo drums sets up us for a fistful of roaring vocals accompanied by frightening guitar riffs which throw you back into your seat as if you’re on a rollercoaster. Once again there’s a head bobbing tune, the pace is relentless, gripping you, unwilling to let go. The two sets of vocals are back, one set shaking you to the core only for the other to pull you up again ready for the next assault. The different layers to the track such as the different vocals, the changes in tempo as well as the solo drum start are attributes you would associate with a band that have been around a lot longer.
Overall I really enjoyed listening to the bands stuff, I think there’s something for everyone and I still can’t put a finger on a band that they remind me off which is a good thing. Definitely look forward to hearing more from this band, there is another track on the guys Facebook page so check that out, can’t go giving it all away!
