NG26

Derbyshire based NG26 say they offer a diverse mix of influences creating an epic sound, citing influences such as Alterbridge (brave…I’m a huge Alterbridge fan to the point I went out and bought the PRS Tremonti SE to show my love) and Papa Roach in their style, in theory, this could be a very interesting band to check out!
Opening with Bring Back The Day immediately the tone is set dark heavy and pounding – the drums seem to push the track on as the guitars take the lead and create a massive bassy sound – it’s really something! The vocals lead ever onwards creating a catchy yet heavy mash up of music which immediately shows off the bands influences/style, the guitar work in the background throwing in pinch harmonics and devastating riffs. Throwing a solo into the mix for good measure, this track is an example of what rock should be like – loads of elements thrown together in a pot to create a monster of a track which you’ll want to listen to again and again.
Second track Otherside opens with more riffs and pounding drums, continuing from the previous track without really taking any time to breathe! Slowing things down to a sludgy mash up as the vocals kick in, the contrasts become apparent here as the vocals bounce around over the simple guitar line, the combination working well to create a solidly heavy sound. Again this track features an incredibly catchy chorus which will have you nodding along after a moment or two – the whole track works really well basically doing exactly what it says on the tin.
Leading into final track One More Road From Home, the band continue their onslaught of riffs and pounding drums, this time adding more of a classic rock vibe to proceedings before kicking in fully with the double bass and pinch harmonics. Seeming to draw influence from NWOBHM bands, this track adopts a more rolling beat as it progresses before breaking down to another catchy chorus featuring multi layered vocals and more of those awesome guitar riffs.
NG26 are a band you should check out, not to become your favourite band necessarily but purely to hear what solid rock is all about. The sound they achieve is way bigger than I expected from a 4 piece, adding in all the elements of the band to the mix to create a depth which normally you don’t come across. Further to this, drawing on their influences they’ve managed to combine sounds which all work together to keep every track catchy and accessible throughout.
