November-7
Another band we were told to check out recently were November 7. November 7 are a hard hitting Metal band from Switzerland. I was surprised as not many bands these days tend to stick within one genre. I put my headphones in slightly worried that perhaps the next four tracks wouldn't have much variation.... anyway this is what I thought.
Her Name was the first track on the list, I loved the start, and an eerily echoed tune starts us off before a solo guitar sets a catchy tune in motion. The crashing of drums is met with a full guitar riff, instantaneously sending the track into another universe, you can't even nod your head the pace is too ferocious. As the vocals kick in the pace drops and you’re back to the slower start, you can hear the Evanescence influences oozing out from the female voice. I loved this track because there’s so many great things about it, so many different stories, rolled into one. The way the band phases out the heavy parts, leading into something calmer is genius.
Second track I listened too is called In My Mind, I hoped to hear something a little bit different from the first track and I think I did.....just. The start I really enjoyed, the heavy metal start is a must in my eyes and the band pull it off expertly. There’s still a big Evanescence feel to the track, similar to the first track. The vocals are really good and there’s a less heavy mid-section. Awesome little guitar solo three quarters the way through played with real meaning and purpose. The more I listened the more I likened it to Rock rather than Metal, which was good as it showed the band are capable of variation.
Angel took me by surprise, as the beginning comes across as very electronic, almost like some Linkin Park tracks. The vocals are a lot softer in this track, ticking another box on the variation list, these being complimented by a solid guitar riff. This track makes me want to grab a beer, throw myself around the room in a frenzied state of moshing, then take swigs to refuel, during the quiet parts. Everything works well, top drumming, top guitar work and awesome vocals.
Parasite was the fourth and final track I listened to. This was my favourite track I listened to, the Evanescence tag disappeared during this track for me. A sharp guitar tune you can follow all the way through, played at a fast but breathable pace compliments the ever solid and reliable vocals really well. There are parts of the track that really show off the individual talents of each band member from the long notes vocally to the little guitar solos that give the track an extra edge to it. This was my favourite track I listened to.
Top stuff in my opinion, my worries have been put at ease and think the band have a lot more to offer than just Metal, the rest of the album is quality but I’ll let you guys find that out for yourselves.
