Senseless Beauty
Loud-Stuff venture over the pond again and feature a five piece band called Senseless Beauty. The guys come from Mason city, Iowa and have amassed a huge following on Facebook. They produce a Christian/Metal core sound and have worked their way up from nothing, often playing for nothing just doing the stuff they love. I listened to four tracks, including two new releases.
On The Shoulders Of Giants was the first of the bands new releases I got my hands on. The start is typically frantic for this style of genre of music, despite this there’s still a pretty catchy tune involved. The vocals are raw and strong, and penetrate deep into your soul. However, for the chorus, there's a much more subtle and Christian feel to the vocals, much easier on the ears. I loved the contrast between the two styles. There’s a good foundation, mid-section and a strong finish to the track, towards the end the two sets of vocals are mashed together and adds another level which I enjoyed.
The second track was called Reverse The Curse. It starts with an addictive rolling drum beat, a piercing guitar riff joins in along with the strong, emotional vocals, it’s not long before you hear the secondary vocals which are much easier on the ears, and again they accompany the chorus. Throughout the track you can hear the drum beat, there’s a slightly less Metal edge to the track which I liked, gives the guys another tick in the variation box. I suggest just sitting back and focusing on the guitar work in this track, some really top stuff.
Bright Skies was the second and final new release from the band. An eerie guitar solo greets us, I liked it because it wasn’t senseless strumming of a guitar like some solos can tend to become, it had depth and meaning and was soon joined by that thunderous drum beat, I heard in the previous two tracks. I loved the contrasts between the two styles of vocals, the harsh, raw typical metal vocals, joined by an almost church like voice kept me in touch and I was nodding my head from start to finish. The tempo of the track is played to perfection and the small sections with just drum and guitar, top everything off.
The final track I listened to was called Eyes Closed, Walking into Traffic. This was my favorite out of the four, there was a catchy tune all the way through, and the two sets of vocals bounced off each other as if they were dueling. I felt like there was a story going on, and I was part of it, to me that’s why I listen to music, to get that feeling. With tempo changes throughout and everything else going on, including the huge drums beats and solid guitar riffs, there are so many different dimensions to this track, I couldn’t really find anything wrong with it.
Definitely in my top three favourite bands I have reviewed so far, this band is destined for big things.
