Setting Circles - Set Me Free (Demo)
Exeter based Setting Circles got in touch to let us know about their Demo and their upcoming studio sessions. We had a listen to see what we thought of it!
‘Set Me Free’ is the Demo track from Setting Circles. Opening with crunchy guitars it was like being transported back to the bands which first got me into the music I listen to now – which has to be a good start. The band describe themselves as ‘Heavy Metal Riff + Psychadelic Vocals + Head bobbing Rhythms + A Big Phat Bassline = Setting Circles’ – and I can see where they’re coming from.
The vocals certainly match the idea of being psychedelic, they’re smooth and almost soft, acting as a complete opposite to the ‘wah’ laden crunchy guitars and feedback in the back ground. The rhythm of the track had me nodding along within a minute or so of it beginning – but the bass line is missing here.
Before you sit there and say ‘what now??’ let me clarify. There’s a bass line there, but it’s low in the mix. The result is that the guitar and vocals take over and the bass gets lost in the back ground. This is down to the mix though, not necessarily the band. With a proper recording session under their belts I’m sure this will change!
I’ll be looking forward to seeing what the band comes out with after some studio time, The result should be a more refined take on the music meaning all the instruments stand out in their places.
As a demo, this is a good track with some clear points to move forward with. I’m not going to judge the band on this though, I want to see what they’ve got coming next.
We'll have a review of their album up as soon as it's recorded and we've got an interview with the band coming soon, but to find out more about Setting Circles, check out their Facebook page HERE.
