Slipstream
I usually start by giving my own insight on the band in question. However after reading through the guys Facebook page, I’m going to use their own words to describe them. "Unique 5 Piece band, with Power House Riffage accompanied by Dream-Like Ambience and Mind Bending Grooves That Won’t Be Stopped"!
The band is from Birmingham and is producing an Alternative/Stoner/Groove/Ambient rock style.
Regular Breakfast was the first track I listened to. A mischievous, mellow guitar riff opens up proceedings. The main body of the track consists of a very simple but effective riff. I liked this as sometimes riffs can become complicated and almost out of place in a track. The vocals kick in, giving the song volume and a biting touch. They sound great and once the chorus kicks in and the riffs and beats get heavier you know you are participating in a full blown rock track.
Second on my magical list was Wreck Me. Over 7 minutes of punishing rock music awaited me. A hard hitting drum beat sets the ball rolling which is soon working in tandem with a menacing and face melting riff. The introduction of the vocals slow the track down, the riffs getting less heavy, only the pulsating drum beat remains. The chorus erupts like a volcano bringing back the heavier riffs which get you throwing your head around, absorbing the tune. There’s a lot of talent in the group and it is shown by the guitar solos that are given free range. Don't be put off by the length of the track this had me addicted from start to finish.
Run... starts with a regimented like drum beat. A subtle riff plays in the background supporting the beat. Tension builds up as the track progresses until the riff is over the drum beat and the vocals have entered and are accompanying it. The tempo to the track is noticeably slower than the previous tracks; however I liked the variation shown by the guys. It proves to me that if needed, they can adapt to different types of track. At 6 minutes long, it is another long track but it does manage to keep your focus. Especially as the track comes to life and speeds up dramatically.
Rain was the final track from the band that I listened to. After the range of genres I have heard from the previous 3 tracks I was intrigued as to what I would get next. One difference from the other tracks is that it is much shorter. An Incubus like beginning greets us, it isn't very heavy, just a feel good factor to the song. An interesting thing about this track is there aren’t any vocals. This is one to listen to yourselves!
I liked the stuff these guys are bringing to the table. There's clearly a lot of talent on offer, they have time on their side as well which is a big bonus. I have high hopes for them and given the right moves and a bit of luck anything is possible.
