The Angry Bombs
We were recently contacted by The Angry Bombs about their album, Mommy Is A Psycho. Ever wanting to discover new and interesting music, I figured it was only right I check out what was on offer from these guys to see what I thought – to the music!
The intro track that leads us into Got Your Thrills doesn’t give a lot away, but once we’re into the track everything becomes crystal clear, launching forward into a distorted punky mix of hammering guitars, pounding drums and gravelly vocals. There’s a real sense of rhythm flowing through the distorted backing track ,giving a sense of accessibility to the mix whilst still keeping the authentic sound of punk the main over all feature of things. This is a theme which continues through title track Mommy Is A Psycho, opening with a chanted lyric before descending into a punk fuelled melee of drums and hammering guitar lines. This is good old skool punk done well with an updated feel to things, adding in a sense of being accessible and the sort of thing you crave seeing on the live circuit.
One Last Time continues the idea of hammering a punk track out at full speed and keeping the listener wanting more. This is another track which once again harnesses the power of older punk style stuff and adds a fresh and new take on things, keeping it something which you want to hear more and more of. Powerful yet accessible throughout, this is another live anthem in the waiting, there’s everything you could want right here and it’s all done damned well! Falling For You is a serious high point on the album, crafting a track which is going to be sung along to where ever it’s played live. Whilst not as raucous as some of the earlier tracks, there’s once again a firm footing in the punk side of things whilst keeping a sense of melody evident throughout – personally this is a track which I would highly recommend you make sure you check out!
Burnt, Blistered and Scarred is another live anthem in the waiting, a track which opens massive and doesn’t pull back until the moment it comes to a close. Powerful yet catchy and melodic throughout, this is another example of how tight a unit these guys are as a band, crafting the track using all of their elements and making sure that every single part of it can be heard throughout. Another serious high point on the album, this track stands out as a moment which shows off the bands influences, shows where they’ve come from and shows what they can do when they set their minds to it! Twisted Lines comes as somewhat of a shock then when it comes into being, a softer guitar line paving the way and pulling you into a track which is still a punk track, but seems to show off the bands softer side. What’s most striking here is how it demonstrates what the band can do, showing they’re not a one trick pony and can produce softer music as well as the harder stuff. It seems fitting that this track closes the album, fading into the outro and leaving you with a firm taste for the band, wanting to hear more to see how they follow on from here.
The Angry Bombs are one of those bands who have taken an established genre but made it their own, firmly stamping their own take on things and producing an album which you’re going to want to hear live as well as on CD. At times you might think the album is a little clichéd in that it’s a simpler style punk album, but over all there’s a feeling that this could well be something a hell of a lot of people respond well to. In my humble opinion, I think they need to get down here and tour the album, I for one would love to see them live!
