Upon Your Grave
The chaps in Quebec based Upon Your Grave recently dropped me a line, asking if I could possibly check out their spanking new video for their track , Poisoning. With a genre described as ‘call it what you want/extreme melodic thrashcore’, this 4 piece have already released the single Haunting Of The Beast, the 6 piece demo Artistic Freedom, and now this new single, marking the journey they are on to creating their first full length album. Seeing as they’d sent things through, I figured it was about time I had a listen to the chaps for myself.
Bursting into being with a roar of drums and guitar work, this track immediately suggests that what we’re in for is going to be a heavy assed ride! Somehow managing to alternate the vocals between a screech and an almighty guttural raw, the alternating moments of this track keep things interesting, raw and in your face throughout. There’s no doubt that there’s a death edge to things here, combining the sheer power with other moments harking towards more thrash and hardcore – it’s a mix which is interesting for sure, and is sure to kill on the live scene.
I’ll be honest, this one took me a couple of listens to really get in to as there’s such a massive difference in the vocal styles on offer. That said, as a track, this is one which works for sure. Whilst heavy, the more screechy vocals add in a melodic sense in some ways, resulting in something which is on the far end of the accessible range, but there all the same. Certainly a band I’ll be interested to hear more from.
