Vision Theory
Punk band Vision Theory recently got in touch about their EP to see what we thought. Having started out as a covers band covering the likes of Green Day and Blink 182, these guys soon realised they should be writing their own music and making their own path – so they set out to do just that. Finally setting up the band, the EP is on their ReverbNation page and good to go – so let’s see what we’ve got!
First track Red Fir Ct. gets things going and straight away suggests that this is going to be a catchy assed selection of tracks from start to finish. Crunchy guitars played at pace give a sense of The Offspring to proceedings, yet with the pop approach of the likes of Blink 182, making this a highly accessible and easy to listen to track. Straight away I found myself thinking that this would be very very cool on the live scene, it’s got that vibe which is going to have live crowds jumping around like lunatics and loving every second of it. The catchy chorus is one which after a couple of listens you’ll be singing along to, the breakdown in the middle of the track a moment of pure genius as it gives you a time to reflect on things and immerse yourself fully into the music – good start!
Nightwing follows on and continues the happy go lucky feeling from the moment it kicks off. Jumpy yet full of bass and heavy drums, this is another track which I imagine is awesome on the live front. Sounding like the harder Blink 182 tracks, you can’t help but nod along and tap your feet to this track, even just sitting listening to it at home. He crunchy guitar line is powered up further by the bass, the whole mix developing in depth as the track progresses and keeping you listening throughout. What I really liked on this track was the contrasting vocal line, the two work in harmony throughout to further make this a track which you want to play, and play loud at that!
Finishing the EP with Growing Up (It Can’t Get Much Worse)you’re given one final moment of jumpy punky goodness, opening bass heavy and shaking the foundations of the house as soon as the riff comes into being. Catchy once again, this track reminds me of a band I saw years back called Brodie, they played similar stuff and I still find myself listening to their EP from time to time now, certainly one to look out for if you can get a copy! Catchy, fast, fun and downright solid throughout, this track leaves you with a real feel good feeling rushing through you, you just want to get out, drink some beers and catch this band live!
I like punk music like this, it’s got that accessible approach which a lot of people can connect with yet still has enough heaviness to scratch that itch. Vision Theory are one of those bands which, given the right exposure and development, have the means to do really well – they’re a perfect summer festival band for sure! I can’t wait to see what comes next from these guys as if this is just their EP, the album promises to be awesome!
